Getting 'thinner' without loosing 'weight'

My BMI is 21.5, I'm 5'3" (160cms) and 121lbs (55kgs) and having trouble working out what my next goal is. I don't think I'll necessarily look any better if I loose more weight so I'm keen to loose body fat, tone up and get fitter.
What is the best way of doing this? Do I need to restrict calories? Will working out using a resistance based programme help?
I'm currently doing 30DS (day 14 today) and loving the results so far so will stick with that but should I be netting maintenance calories or a deficit?

Congrats on being 121 pounds. Do you use any weights? They will tone you and make you look great. I still have pounds to loose but I really don't show it. I have my muscles fairly toned.0

Start weight training. You may find you need to eat more as your BMR increases as you get stronger. This is good.0

Strength training does wonderful things. I've "gained" weight and gotten smaller and leaner.
I'm currently eating just a tiny bit below maintenance (like 150 calories below, plus exercise calories) because I only log Monday through Friday and that gives me wiggle room to indulge on the weekends.0 -
Thanks, I'd been considering looking into NROLFW but don't have access to a gym at the moment, we're moving in a couple of weeks though so that will change!
I generally only tend to log mon-fri so I love the idea of eating slightly under to give wiggle room! I find eating healthy during the week (or at least while at work) much easier than the weekends when kids/hubby are around!0 -
Hi I'm 5'3, 118pounds, I'm still working out to keep the waist smaller, and the fats from expanding around the waist and tummy area. I started running, working on 5km run, my bum and legs looks sllimmer now, lost about 1 inch on the bum and waist so far. I'm also doing light weights, just dumbells, doing Nike Training club, and just doing all these at home other than the once a week swim and 5km run. And definitely eating healthy at most days, with cheat days, bialancing it out in the week.
I'm still trying to lose slightly -6 pounds,as I think ills look better, but more important, flatter tummy, smaller waist, and slimmer arms as I'm past 40, and those are generally the problem areas.0 -
Add weights to your routine and your body shape will start changing for the better. No girly-girl weights though. NROL4W is a great program to get you started, but I would highly encourage meeting with a trainer if you are new to weights because it is too easy to hurt yourself. 3 days a week of weights and 2-3 days of cardio and you'll get there. My weight has hardly changed since starting lifting but I can wear smaller sizes because my body is more dense now.0
