Jitters?

Does anyone else feel a bit jittery on 1200 cals? I have been feeling that way since starting about a week and a half ago. (I don't own a scale, so I don't know how much I've lost - if I've lost anything) - but I feel a bit odd.

I DO drink coffee in the mornings, so today, for the first time, I had decalf to see if it would help and I think it did, although the jitters weren't gone completely.

Have tried downing some carbs - fruit, for example, when feeling jittery, in case it's a blood sugar thing. Have also tried broth, in case it's low sodium. Neither has helped much.

Just wondering if anyone else felt jittery? Would like to know that I'm not alone and to know if anyone has had success countering it. Is it because of my cal intake? I don't want to stop doing 1200. It's the only thing that's ever worked for me.

    How old are you?

Jitters can be a sign of menopause, too.

but, if your jitters are new since you began diet, low blood sugar IS a good guess. Usually, blood sugars that are low enough to make one shake, also induce sweating,

If you live in USA, it's hard to imagine you do NOT know a few diabetics, since diabetes is so so rampant in the USA,
so maybe you can ask them test your blood sugar on your fingertip.(?) Or, better yet, visit your doctor, if you can afford to.

    If eating does relieve it,
even more indication that your jitters are related to not eating enough.
any number of deficiencies can induce shaking, btw, like calcium, potassium, phosphorus, sodium, etc.
    not "just" sugar.

How many calories per day are you eating?

btw, i don't especially get jitters, per se, nope.....but i do get a kind of a buzzy feeling, but it is pleasant, like Very energetic, almost like a little hum all over inside of me, if i do not eat over 1000 calories...........i am way more likely to exercise on those days, too, cuz i feel more energetic.....
    hard to describe.
  • I'm 33 and I live in Canada.

I am trying to eat 1200, but some days I'm a little under (some a bit over). I have heard of people feeling jittery like this on a low carb plan, and I don't eat a LOT of carbs, so I wondered if that might be it.

Maybe I will just have to experiment with eating different things when I get the jitters to see what makes them abate.

(Alas, these are not energetic jitters. More like panicky, freak-out jitters.)

ah, well, maybe you are not eating enough altogether,
or maybe you are not eating enough carbs...?

hope you DO get this figured out!! sounds really uncomfortable, feel bad for you.
do log in your food diary, and maybe make notes in that lil section at the bottom, and track what days you feel jittery, and which days you don't, might be a pattern there.

Make sure you are getting enough fat and particularly Omega-3's. I feel jittery the days I don't take my Ovega, whether or not I am at 1200. Vitamin deficiencies can cause anxiety too.
  • Thanks for weighing in guys. I cut out coffee and am now taking a multi-vitamin, as well as eating some more carbs and i think things are improving. Yay!
