The rules

Here are a few rules for this challenge. We are going to keep it simple because planking is SOOOO HARD!!!

Start day; September 1, 2012

you can log your progress daily or weekly. Id suggest daily to keep yourself motivated and also to help others as well.

Log your progress as 3min/60 or 3/60. Its however much time you did over 60. And at the end of the month your number should look like this 60/60

Feel free to discuss your progress and or failures. This is to motivate each other to strengthen the core and any and all progress or failures should be noted to get better, try harder and incourage your fellow MFP'er.

Im so excited that all if you decided to join me on this quest for a strong core. Its high time I whip mine into shape. Thanks so much for the support!!!

And for those who have been planking please offer advice for the ones who are beginning. We dont want any injuries during ths challenge.

Watch your form, spin neutral, head up, eyes forward.

Cool, I'm in, just need to figure out on my ticker how to have two different ones as I'm doing also a mileage challenge! As you may notice I got my ticker, I used a different site, the other site kept over inputting my other ticker, so anyway, I'm good to go ...

I think we should have a weekly thread, that way we can stay organized and not get lost in one giant thread!

I did a trial run of planking last night and almost died after a few seconds  this will be fun!

Are these supposed to be done on your hands or elbows? In any dvd I've ever done planking was on the palms of your hands.. someone else posted a video doing it on the elbows/arms. Is one more effective than the other?
  • I am in too :) great idea !

I plan to do them on my elbows. I was told to do them this way is more of a challenge.

I'll be doing them on my elbows too. Arthritic hands don't like planks. hehe I don't know about more of a challenge-all depends on what you find easy and where your strength lies.

I like that the 1st is a Saturday. I see this as the "roll out of bed and start planking" challenge. I mean really, is there any easier time to do it?

Okay so I was thinking (at first) as September has 30 days, I 'd do 2 min planks a day, but I've re-evaluated and decided to allow my abs to have a "rest" I'd try for 5 days per week at 3 mins, I'd have to split this up each day as I can only hold for 2 mins at a time.

I'll try and goes as many day as possible at 3 mins before my rest day!

Thanks for this group - it's a great idea. My osteopath has told me to do planks because I'm hypermobile, but I have a hard time remembering to do them regularly, so this will be some good motivation. :-)

How do you make a plank ticker?
I used lilyslim for my ticker here as I've got another ticker for a mileage challenge at the ticker factory (and it kept over entering that ticker and didn't know who to have two on the site) but I'd say it's easier to set up one there. On the tickerfactory you just Click on the fitness / exercise one and it's basically step by step instructions. You need to add the address every time you post if you want it to be seen on each post, it's the bbCode that you need to copy & paste into your posts and it's easy to edit them to show what you're done.

I am ready to start. Kind of excited. Funny thing to be excited about.

I think I've made a ticker. Who knew these things existed! This is my practice ticker test:

I went with a Pirate and treasure theme. Really working the "walking the plank" and reward at the end idea. OK, let me post this to see if it worked ...
