recipes and calories or... just eat?

I have been doing the paleo now a couple weeks and am freakishly happy about it. I found so many blogs with fantastic recipes and finally tracked down the stores that have all I need (there is actually a local butcher right next to my train stop at work!!).
Now - how to figure calories? Do you all still count calories? For example, I made the nom nom paleo green pork sliders and had absolutely no idea if I seriously wanted to sit down and work out the calories in all that - all the detective work and math
(googled it and found that I overestimated the calories by 100%)
Do you all count all the calories still?

A lot of us still do, at least occasionally, especially when starting out. It's hard to believe with all the fat that we wouldn't be eating ten thousand calories, but what you'll probably find is that you naturally fall into a lower calorie range than you did with grain-based carbs in your diet (and some of us have to track to make sure we eat enough calories to meet our goals!).
So, whether you track or not is ultimately up to you, but you don't have to sweat it too much if you don't track something, as you're probably not pushing your calorie goals like you were before.0 -
I still track...I enter in calories for everything because I find that I eat too many things (like nuts) if I don't. I also keep track of my macros (I am really trying to keep my carbs down).0

I felt really tied to tracking when I got started, mainly because every 'diet' I've ever done has a tracking requirement. I don't anymore; I discovered that because I generally don't snack or eat between meals, I'm actually under my calorie goal when I'm committed to eating properly, which sometimes freaks me out more than when I'm over! So, I just eat until I feel satisfied, which seems to work for me.0

Track your carbs and all should be well. Remember that insulin is required to store fat and insulin production is influenced by carbohydrates. No carbs - no insulin - no fat storage. Thats my understanding of how it works. You will get all the carbs you need from your above ground vegetables. Paleo gives us freedom from tracking0

Add them to your food list and your done!0

I track just in order to be able to lose weight, but I find that if I just eat normally, no tracking is needed. Currently I am int he weight loss stage so I am tracking. Plus it gives me a really good indicator if my portion sizes are creeping up since I tend to eat more than I really need and then skip meals because I am not hungry when I shoudl be. The tracking helps me be sure I am keeping up good eating habits as well.
Once I hit my goal I am sure the tracking will be a lot less regular unless I find myself putting on weight again (I do love those nuts and avocados!).0
