  • With the start of the school year today, I am going to shoot for 30 day no drinking............. I need to lower my tolerance in order to make my original goal more obtainable.

None whatsoever huh? You guys are all better men than me!

I'll go with JP - one day at a time...

NONE TODAY and I have to burn what I would normally drink.

    Yesterday was good. No booze.

Today will be difficult. Taking some friends to the Magic Castle in Hollywood and there are numerous bars in the place. But it is a 2.5 hour drive both ways so I will designate myself the driver (and get home at 3 in the morning!).

Good to read about all of you doing your best to meet your goals and reduce the juice.

9/4 - Well, Tuesday I had 2 glasses of wine WITH dinner, but no more AND I went for a run at 8:00 PM. WooHoo Me!
9/5 - NONE for me thank you, I was active and busy and didn't give it a thought... for once.
Today I have a back to school night and have every intention of running when I get home, no matter what time it is so will not be having any.

Good luck tonight JP - partyin in Hollywood makes it tough to say no.

    You are doing fantastically!
My night in Hollywood was 1 beer. Period. Club soda after that. I was at the Magic Castle from 6:45 to 11:00. Got to bed at 1:30. Went to work by 7 the next morning, and had a sleep study in a hospital that night, so no opportunity to say no! Booze verbotten! Now it is Friday (day off) and so far I have been good. For today, no booze. Maybe tomorrow. But not today.

Thanks for your support! I am rooting for you too!
    Today is Friday and

Way to go! It's so cool seeing how just a forum like this can help people!

I've totally noticed that the busier I am, the less I want to drink anything, so I'm trying to keep moving, not exercising right now, but trying not to just sit around all the time.

jp, Wow! I don't know how you managed Hollywood bars and drank so little! Great!

I have to say I REALLY want a drink right now. I can't exercise, and I have nothing to do. ARGH!!! Maybe I'll go to the store for bread...

What do you guys do when you can almost taste it but are resisting?

OK I fell apart this weekend. I drank way more than I should. And I was home drinking alone. Today my plan is to abstain.

I'm kinda new here....but usually when I can almost taste it, or crave a taste of it, I cave. I really, really love the taste of my drink of choice. Hard to resist!

It's been almost 30 days since my last drink! I had a couple beers over 3 weeks ago for a very special occassion. I used to drink 10-12 beers every night, and I quit cold turkey. Staying strong and losing, feel so much better. I think I have officially quit for forever, except very very special ocassions, I know my body is thanking me :)

    STAZZY BOO - WINNER!

I've been pretty good at sticking to my September commitment. This group is helping keep me focused on the goal. I like the idea of making monthly commitments and staying (sort of) accountable. Not perfect but getting better. One person at an OA meeting put it this way. "Can't corral all my demons at once. Get them in the fence one at a time."

jp, it's definitely a day at a time thing for me, even though I've been mostly good since the 17th of last month. I went out and had a sip of a friends drink and that was it. I was more thirsty that anything, and I'm not really counting it. Must admit, the Jameson was quite yummy though... better than I thought it would taste.

Yay Stazzy! That's awesome! I bet losing weight is easier now. I'm not sure if I've stopped drinking forever, but the daily massive intake is a thing of the past, and I hope to not even drink daily, even for short times. I've just done enough of that for too long. I have to admit that every time I don't drink, I'm proud of myself, much like when I exercise. It's been a great motivator!

    Hi folks,

SO it is the end of September and the good news is I didn't drink as much as I have in prior months. I have this message board to thank and those of you who tell your stories and write down your goals to credit. I have learned we are as sick as our secrets and laying it all out here for others to see is a good way to dispell secret sicknesses. I hope you are seeing some progress to your goals as well.

On to October. No more than two days a week, and no more than two pints of beer or three glasses of wine or 3 oz of liquor on that day.

jp, that sounds like a great goal! Congratulations on your victory with drinking less! :flowerforyou: (There really needs to be a "high-five" smily.) Once I was able to cut down and keep myself accountable, it seemed SO much easier to keep on track... not to say I wouldn't have binge-type nights, but they got much more spread out, until I finally just decided quit in order to give my liver some breathing room after drowning it for years.

How'd September work out for everyone else? Have you seen much of a connection between drinking and weight loss? I've dropped about 2 pounds in the 6 weeks (today!) after quitting, but that's it. I blame turning to eating instead of drinking for an emotional crutch... I baked cookies and maybe a quarter of them left the house :noway: Lame sauce, any way you pour it. I try to get enough water, but my eating habits are just crap! I guess it's time to start logging meticulously again. :frown:

Still nada for me, but damn did I want a Heineken while I was waiting for take-out today! I've hung out with drinking friends a couple times, and say no when offered wine, and by some miracle I don't get annoyed by the people drinking... that's always a toughie for me! Having made it through social situations, emotions, hormones, and the two combined into a horrific combo from miscarriage, I'm feeling more and more confident that I don't need booze... and that means a lot to me, having relied on it daily for so long. Plus I'm so much more productive around the house! Maybe I'll even get the living room rearranged so I can actually work out in it soon...
