running etiquette (and spitting)

Obviously it is gross to spit on the sidewalk, period. I am a new runner and I do not typically ever spit. However I have had a couple circumstances since I started my running program on Aug 1st where I really had to spit. I looked around me and did not do it with anyone around and did it in the woods no where near the sidewalk. I was not carrying water and I am still working on my form so I don't know when I' ll feel comfortable carrying water. What is the etiquette around this-- is it just a flat- out "No - No "???

  • I haven't found myself needing to spit, but if I had to, I totally would (discreetly) :)

I don't know if it's proper or not, but I'm out in the country on back roads... so I spit when I need to. :) Sometimes you just get so much saliva that you have to.

Yep, I'm on a cinder track in the fairgrounds, so there's lots of grass and animals that it could blend in with... I look around and if nobody's near....well... let's say sometimes I could play hockey. :embarassed:
