I knew witin 10 days. But my surgeon's office worked directly with the insurance company on my behalf. The surgeon's office called the insurance company daily, gathered any additional information they needed etc. The surgeon's office would then call me every 3 or 4 days to give me an update. The surgeons office knew before I did that I had been approved. Hope that helps! Lisa K

Mine took about 3 weeks but I had heard it depends on how quick your insurance company works, not all insurance offices are created equal. One woman who had surgery at my office just before me had to wait about 6 weeks and then the surgeon had to supply an addition document at the last minute but she got approved.
  • When in doubt call call call, even when my docs officewas working it for me I called, because that way the will stay on top of it, hang in there girl you will make it, I know its pins and needles at this point ;)

Hopefully your surgeons office is doing this! They know what the insurance companies need to hear!
  • I called my insurance company after like 10 days. I couldn't wait!

Your surgeon's staff should be taking care of this for you. It's their job. I knew within a week. Call your surgeon's office and make them call for you. And call your insurance yourself.

I agree...call your surgeon's office. They should be doing this for you. My doc's office did all the dealing with my insurance company. When I first started my journey they contacted my insurance and found out what requirements I needed to fulfill. I had my 6 month guided diet period as they required, plus had to supply a 5-year weight history and some other documentation. When I completed all my requirements, they submitted to insurance and I was approved 3 days later. Keep calling and checking...the squeaky wheel gets the grease!

Hi all, thanks for all the comments. I called the doctors office after about two and a half weeks. She told me that it could take up to four weeks. But now we are four weeks today. Unless they didn't submit it when I called them. I just hope it really soon.

Call the surgeon's office today. Tell them to call your insurance. If they will not, I would tell them I was going to go to a different surgeon.
  • It took me a week or two after all the paper work was in to get approved
  • I waited almost 6 weeks for them to get back to the surgeon

Every insurance is different and has different requirements. There was 6 weeks between my appointment with my surgeon and my surgery date. About 2 weeks in, I was called that I needed to get some additional labs done for the insurance company. I did that and about a week later I had my approval.

I absolutely agree with the other folks--you need to hone in on your doctor's office. They should be on top of this!

thanks, it does make me feel a little bit better that some have had to wait 6 weeeks as well. i Have lost almost 50 pounds since my six month began. This is what makes me nervous. but I told the doc that I can lose it but I can't keep it off. This still is not a healthy weight for me as well

My surgeon filed my procedure with my insurance company on the Sep 7th. Still haven't been approved. i call them everyday but when they tell me its still pending I ask to know where it is in the process. They will tell you the notes. For instance my insurance was waiting to hear back from surgeon. So i called the surgeons office and told them that. They called and now I should no something this week. Be persistant with it. You pay your insurance prem. So they work for you.

This is what is making me very angry. I have waited the whole month of September. They could have gotten the upper gi scheduled in this time if they knew it was going to have to be done. We still haven't heard from the insurance because they have not even submitted anything yet, so she made me believe that we were waiting on them. Some of this could have been taken care of way before this. I am just livid right now.
