Has anyone tried one of those mass building programes that works on the theory of a 1 week low cal "primer phase" followed by a 2 week "overload phase"? Thinking of giving it a go to see what all the hype is about

The theory is you get a bigger anabolic response after a brief period of under eating compared to what you get from being in a surplus all the time.

I don't know anyone who really advocates this approach that I can think of, but I have never tried it so I don't know.

    Worth a go I suppose.

how much "mass" are you really going to build in those 14 days? a couple of pounds at most?

I assume you cycle it mutiple times. Not just for 21 days.

Sounds like the typical Spike Diet. Same concept anyway.

i figured that's what people would do, but is what's the point of eating low calorie every third week? how are you supposed to gain in a deficit 1 out of every 3 weeks?

The gains made in the 2 weeks seem to be high enough to make up for the loss of weight during the low cal deficit. The programe I was looking at was by vince del monte, his book burn the fat feed the muscle, is still the best I have ever ready so he knows his stuff... I hope anyways...

The results are said to be 12 pounds average gain (mostly new ppl) and experienced lifters around 7ish of lean muscle. In the end there's only one way to find out so going to give it a go from monday, ill let you guys know my results

You aren't going to realy see much happening in two weeks dude.

Get on some solid programming like 5x5, 5/3/1, or starting strength. Drink a ****ton of milk. Do this for 6 months.
    thats your mass building plan.

Sounds like a case of "****around-itis" or a menstrual cycle approach to eating...stick to one goal over a long time period and be patient

Even if you started lifting for the first time today. Took Dbol, Test, and several other compounds. And ate like crazy.
12 pounds will not happen in 21 days.

    This is complete BS.

Dbol alone you can. Is a short ester compound. Heck bodybuilders use it to jump start a cycle for 4 weeks. They are not 100% permanent of course.

water weight? yeah you can get 12 lbs in 3 weeks easily orals bloats some people out really nice, hence it dropping back once you come off.

12lbs of actual lean muscle..........never happening in a million years.

Assuming the best possible gain is 7 pounds, still seems worth trying. Its not really that unbelievable to attain, hell I've packed on just over 4 pounds of lean muscle in a month after a year long break just by using MFP (approx 0.6kg of fat came with that as well, so pretty lean mass ha ha).

The theory behind it does make a lot of logical sense to an engineer and has the bro science behind it so it will be a nice change up now that my body is getting used to my program.

One thing that does worry me is if playing with my metabolism in that manner could cause damage, if anyone has any professional opinions id appreciate it

    that's muscle memory.

The kind of muscle gains you are talking about are simply impossible for a natural, and probably out of reach for a geared trainee.

7lbs over 3 weeks equates to around 50lbs in a year. tI haven't seen anyone whose opinion I trust state that you can put on more than 2-3lbs lean mass in a month. (outside of total newbs etc)

Vince DelMonte is well know for making over the top statements to endorse his products.

    uhuh.

Stick to the basics. Progressively lift heavier, eat at moderate surplus so you don't get too fat. Cut when you're ready.
