Moral question

I was just interested to see what other people's opinions on this were.
Let me first say I'm fully signed on with the concept of EM2WL and have been preaching it to anyone that'll listen.
Today I received a message on Facebook from a friend that is planning on losing weight to raise money for Cancer Research. From what she says she plans on doing this nearly completly via diet, no huge increase in activity.
Her aim is to lose 3.5 stone in 12 months. Now I can see where this is heading already. Starts to lose weight, weight loss slows down , cuts back diet even more to make target. We've all been there. She's also going to have the added pressure of feeling she has to do it as she's raising money for charity, which means even more extreme cuts if she's not on track.
Although I'm tempted to I know trying to talk her out of it, or at least approaching it differently would be a waste of time.
So my question is would it be wrong to sponsor her , and therefore supporting her actions, even if it's for a good cause.
I'm very much verging on the side that it would be wrong. However good the cause it's not worth throwing her body well out of sync for.
I was just interested how others would feel in a similar situation.

I would not sponsor her. As you said, damaging yourself long term is not good even for the sake of charity. And by sponsoring her, you would absolutely encourage her actions. Raising money through weight loss is a terrible terrible idea. Who decided that was ok?! She should be trying to get healthy for herself, not Cancer Research. If she were my friend, I would discuss why I would not contribute and offer to help support her getting healthy in another way. (New workout buddy perhaps?) Good luck!0

Very tough indeed. I would probably tell her I'll donate in her name but not through her cause. And I like what holleysings says, talk to her and if she's not ready to hear the EMTWL approach, then just explain you're concerned about her weight loss choice but believe in her cause for helping cancer. It's a fine line...and only you know your friend well enough to know whether or not she will take offense to the "talk". Good luck. Tough choice.0 -
Tell her your concerns exactly just like you told us! Tell her she will be more successful doing this "diet" the right way. She might be very receptive!0

I would just donate in her cause. You know your friend better than anyone else, so I think if she is a true friend that she would understand. Give her love and hugs if possible when explaining to her.
And Good Luck and prayers for you dear.0
