Memory lapses....

Since my mid forties, my memory has been in the toilet. I use to be my husband's memory too. Now neither one of us can remember. (CRS). I heard that memory lapse is part of the menopausal process. Do you recover any of it once you're through?

well, if it is really severe, it's probably worth getting a check up,
as well as having any current meds evaluated for side effects, etc.
LOtta meds, (even eyedrops) can influence one's memory.

    as can mental pause.

but yeah, me and my pal both went through mental pause, both of us felt some amt of shock, as neither of us had ever been warned to expect that as part of our periods ending, and we both felt the reduced ability to remember stuff and focus well was fairly severe at the time,
and both of us later felt, after all the dust had settled again,
that our minds are mostly back to prior functioning level, so far as memory goes anyway, near as we can tell!

but, in meantime, do use buzzers, calendars, post-it notes, pocket sized calendars, alarms on your cell phone, other humans, whatever helps YOU remember what you need to get done. and HANG IN THERE, it passes, (imo.)

I don't know if it gets better afterwards - here's hoping because my memory is selective at best and embarrassing at worst. I forget the meaning of words, the names of things and I've notice a persistent and chronic dyslexia which I never had before.
  • Can you repeat the question - I seem to have forgotten......
But seriously - if I didn't keep lists, post notes, whatever it takes - I'd be in bad shape.

I use a few android apps that are very useful but when it comes to conversing with humans I'm up the proverbial without the whatsit.

My memory is getting so bad too.
I kept forget where I just put things 5 minutes ago.
My short term memory is really really and sometimes I don't remember the words also. I may have concentration problem :(
My long term memory is still real good.

Oh yeah. Forget the names of ppl I've worked with for 12 years. It's a good thing that "darlin'" is still an acceptable form of address here!

I also have begun writing notes to myself. A notebook and calendar that is always within arms reach, and post-its all over my house!

New to the group from Idaho, and I'm sooo glad that I'm not the only one who can't remember 5 minutes ago! However, I'll gladly take the screwed up memory, hot flashes and scary mood swings just to be done (finally) with periods!
  • If it weren't for sticky notes and the alarm on my phone I would be totally lost. :blushing:
  • My compounding pharmacist recommended DHEA 25 mg a day. I started on it a few months ago and notice it seems to help me focus more clearly in the afternoons. I take it at lunch time. Worth a shot
