What about "Freezer Cooking"?

I'm thinking about doing this. It seems it would be very helpful once completed. I could even print out the nutritional info for each meal AND maybe...hmmm, I could color code the labels for which amount of cals are in each! So like, yellow would be 300-400, blue, 400-500, RED 500-600, etc.!

Has anyone else tried this method of cooking and if so, what were your thoughts, good or bad? Also, do you have any good websites with recipes? I've found many trying to sell them, but I don't wanna' shell out the cash.

Thanks! :glasses:

I do this already, on a much smaller scale though. I cook/freeze meals bi weekly (as my freezer isn't too large and I share it with a roommate). Finding labels that don't peel off during freezing/thawing is difficult but other than that, I love it.

Color coding is a GREAT idea. I just write the name of it on the container (the recipe is saved in MFP for one serving already) and I'm good to go. Since it is just me, it is much easier, but I like this idea for families too! It DEFINITELY saves time and helps keep me nutritionally on par.

    Great link Chris!
  • Sounds okay and I do it with some things but I really do enjoy the cooking every day... well most days. :)

I thought this thread was going to be about things like "refrigerator cookies." I remember making some in elementary school.

A few years ago I read an article about places that provided the ingredients for cooking. You paid a fee and made a dish that could be frozen and used for the week. I would look for places like that. They would have recipes.

    What's a refrigerator cookie?

Adults didn't want little kids using the oven. So they would mix up something like cookie dough, cut it out in circles, and put it in the freezer. At least that's how I remember it. This was before people started eating pre-packaged cookie dough.
