Left Hip Pain?

Not sure if it's my hip, muscles, or whatever, but today I seem to be a little sore in my left hip. Did some stretching etc.

I quit running over the summer for the most part (lots of life changes), and picked up again last week to train for the Flying Pig Marathon in May of 2013.

I started week one with, 5 runs....3.5, 4.5, 3.1, 3.5, and 3.6.

I took Sunday off from all true exercise (still walked alot from Downtown to PBS for some football action...who-dey!). Then I did 5 miles yesterday, just trying to increase about .5-1 mile a week until my Half-Marathon on October.

I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I don't think I'm increasing too much, or running too much...and it's a bit more sore when I go slower than faster. I don't want to have my training interrupted already...I'm more motivated than ever!

Sounds like overuse stuff to me. I'm thinking you ran too much your first week back.

Rest up a bit and come back nice and slow. No increasing miles or day if you are having the same pain.

Does it hurt more when you do lunges? I have a hip impingement. They are common. It is when you have some extra bone on the top of your femur that bumps into your hip when you raise your knee waste high ( or when you lunge). You can read all about it on the Web.

Many people have it and don't develop any symptoms, but it can lead to various over use injuries if you run a lot. In my case, I kept having adductor issues (like a groin pull), and lower abs (thought I might be developing a hernia). Those were compensatory overuse injuries caused by those opposing muscles trying to overcome for the resistance caused by the hip impingement... or something like that.

    thanks!

I started doing DDP's This Aint Yo Mammas Yoga about the time I posted this topic.

Have had ZERO pain on the two runs that have followed doing this.....seemed to do the trick!

I'll keep going with it and see what happens.
