..... and boy do I have questions.
I'm peri. Age 49. Some months having periods 2 weeks apart. Which the dr. said is not uncommon, she just said to let her know if they get heavier. Some months go normal full cycle though, I was always regular 27 days on the dot, almost always to the hour. I never knew how fortunate I was, I never had a lot of PMS symptoms, well, a few slight physical ones but nothing extreme, and barely any emotional/psychological ones. But now.... I feel like I am going crazy sometimes, wild mood swings, epic end of the world stuff, spontaneous squirting of tears, stressed out about nothing. This just is not me. So, I haven't even missed a period yet, how long does this go on?
The other thing I am noticing is, all my fat has moved to my belly, will this come off if I keep working at it? It's nice to go read all the success stories and see those flat tummies from 30 Day Shred or another DVD I'm doing, then I look at the age of the poster and she's 25 or 35, i.e. nowhere near my age. My butt looks great though. LOL!

My boyfriend has started calling my Sybil, and that's not my name. *sigh*
I am feeling really good today though, because I had to pull my belt one notch tighter. I think my hormones are affecting my perceptions of my size as well. If you asked me yesterday or the day before I wouldn't have said I have made any progress.0 -
Welcome! And commiserations, I hope your stay at the halfway hotel of menopause won't be long!0

I can't ever remember having a flat stomach, but the way my fat has clung and is till cling to it is rediculous. And the muffin tops aghh!!!
The good news is that yes it does go down. I have had to persevere with my weight going down, then up, then not moving. I realised I would have to exercise. And it has all helped, slowly......... Take your measurements, so even when your weight doesnt seem to shift, the inches / cm do.
Don't let it grind you down, it may go on for a while.0 -
Deks-lots of same symptons for me so I can totally relate! My whole body composition has changed drastically-never expected that & I have always worked out & stayed at 130 lbs. for YEARS & always very healthy until 2 years ago..can't lose an ounce, get sick more, suffer injuries more...
Oy-don't want to depresss you-everyone is different for sure! And I pray it is short lived & I can lose the rolls! :grumble:

Well, for me, this is definitely getting me healthier. I never used to exercise. But now I have to. So that is one plus.0

Oh my godness! It's like you have stepped in my head nd read my thoughts. I really felt alone because even my mother never went through the things I am going through.0

Welcome to perimenopause.
Unfortunately, it can last for several years.
This is the time to really keep control of your weight. As the estrogen levels ratchet down, the weight and belly fat seem to ratchet up.
Learn to get by on less calories. Eat more fruits and veggies.
Exercise will help with the emotional upheavals.....both highs and lows., and will help with the aches and pains that creep up on you.
Things do settle down a bit when real menopause finally settles in.
I can't seem to lose more than an pound or so, but at least I'm stable.0 -

I was a late baby, so my mom is quite a bit older, I asked her about her experiences and she said she doesn't remember. So.... I'm not sure what to make of that. She generally still has a very good memory so the fact that she doesn't remember specifics perhaps means it was not that severe for her.0 -
I'm new too.
Sounds like me, except I have been going through the menopause for about two years, I haven't had a period in about a year, that's the only plus point of the menopause, i'd happily trade periods against hot flashes and weight gain. The hot flashes always want to get me after I have styled my hair and then I have to start again. LOL. My mum went through the menopause and didn't put a single pound on, she can't understand why I have put weight on and thinks that I cheat on my food intake, she is of the skinny breed of human beings and so will never understand my dilemmas. I would like to know if you lose weight when you go into the real menopause or is it just as difficult, I have steered clear of HRT as well. Any help and advice welcome.0 -
I'm new to group too. I'm 51 yrs. old. I have gone months without periods then when i get one, it floods like nothing i have ever experienced before. scared the crap out of me. Then i spoke to other women who experienced the same thing. I joined a weight loss class back in july offered by High Mark.( lose 10 in 10) I lost not 10 lbs but 10 % of my body weight in ten weeks..It has been a few weeks since the end of class and i am determined to keep losing...only about 8 lbs to go. But im determined to keep going with my healthier lifestyle...more veggies, and exercise at least 3 times a week. I'm currently down 23 lbs. Before MFP i thought i was doing well with what i eat, then mfp helped me to see i have a problem with portion control. What an eye opener.!
I too have hot flashes, and some mild mood swings. (shorter fuse if u know what i mean) So i feel your pain...hope the end of this is in site someday! So like they say....misery loves company!

Wow, 10% body fat? That's pretty amazing, what kind of exercise was it? 10% body fat is about what I need to lose. I'd be happy with 5 or 8% even.0
