How do y'all track pole dancing? Cardio? Strength? I looked it up and couldn't find anything.

It was driving me nuts not knowing how to track so i bought a 30$ heart rate monitor. I am 5'5", 135 lbs and my classes usually run 45 minutes long. When i do a very active intermediate pole class i burn about 200 calories. If it is a more difficult class where i am doing a lot of learning (standing there watching) I burned 160. I understand there are more calories burned when you do strength, but I let those calories go. If i lose a little extra then it's a nice surprise!

I track it under aerobics, and just put the time in that gives the right no. of calories burned. A pole school near me posted this on fb tonight, you guys might find it interesting:

" in 2010 twirl and tone were used as part of a scientific sports study ran by stirling universty to measure heart rate when doing pole fitness and to measure how many cals where being burned, and compairing this to other fitness classes such as body combat, step and body jam. 30 pole students participated in the study, each where of varying age, weight and height. They all had to wear a heart monitor during a normal 90 min class, which included an warm up, spins, pole tricks, dance/cardio part and a cool down. The students where a mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced and two to a pole. Interestingly the test results showed that on average no matter what skill level you where a similar amount of cals where burned. Even more interesting the "rest periods" we all have whilst waiting a turn on the pole and being shown a move where in no way detrimental to the cals burned, it actually seemed that periods of intense activity ie on the pole mixed with small rest periods ie watching a move or waiting a turn where benifcial to burning calories. a method of exercise a lot of fitness professionals swear by. it was found that on average 600 cals where burned per session give or take "

Wow, that study is pretty amazing, guess I'm gonna have to try and wear my monitor through a class and see how true this is of my class.

Oh look we have new ladies of the pole to get to know!! I been MIA from this area of the forum, but I'm so glad you're all here!!

I don't usually track the pole workouts, but if I do, it's as dancing.

If most the time I spent pole dancing was practicing learning or perfecting tricks, then I put calisthenics, or I'll maybe break it up with 3/4 time calisthenics, 1/4 aerobics. If Im just having fun dancing around for the most part, I'll put dancing aerobic.

Basically I just split up the time the best I can into calisthenics, dancing, and aerobics. So hard to track pole dancing, so I always log a bit less time than I actually spent pole dancing.
