The Benefits of an Open Diary

Yesterday I had 6 strawberries with my lunch. The database said that was 250ish calories. I didn't question it because I am new to calorie counting. I did, however, mentally scratch strawberries off of my future grocery list. One of my friends looked at my food diary and suggested that I recheck that info. She was right. The info I had was about 200 cal over!

I have wondered if it would be a problem for me to be trolling around, looking at other people's diaries, having them look at mine...but God showed me very early in that there is an obvious benefit for being transparent. Others can then help me. And I need the help. I cannot do this alone.

So far, looking at the diaries of those of my friends who share them, I have not been triggered. I have gotten ideas for things to pack in my lunch, and made mental notes about restaurants to avoid, and figured out that sandwiches take about 10 lines of ingredients, and that's just the way it is for sandwiches! Thankfully MFP has a tool to remember the meal.

So, I think I will continue to keep my diary open, and to troll through yours. :)

  • You will see when you look at mine that most of my foods are measured by WEIGHT not by item numbers. 100gm of blueberries, 175gm of strawberries. That is a much more accurate way to know what you are getting. Like what you did with strawberries, I haven't purchased grapes in months because they are so high in calories for the serving size. But strawberreis aren't too bad actually. COME BACK TO THE BERRIES! :)

I bought holiday grapes, and ate a bunch of them.
Found out that I ate about 900 calories!
And I thought fruit was good for you ... sigh ...
