Should I redo the c25k for speed purposes?

So I have already ran my first 5k and I loved it. Now I consistently run 45 minutes 5 days a week.

Here is what I am thinking though to improve my time.

Start at week 1 day 1. But instead of jogging at my normal pace (14 min/mile), do it as fast I can. Then go through each week like before but go at a faster speed.

Has anybody done this? Do you think it could work?

Has anybody else done any training to improve speed?

  • I finished the program as well and during one of my rest days I went on a run with my husband (he hurt his back so he's easing back into running) and we did one day of week 1. I ran to keep up with him, so it was fast for me, and I did NOT enjoy it. Personally I wouldn't try to run as fast as you can, but maybe just faster than you usually jog. This time by the last interval I slowed way down and it was not a fun run for me. But! You may have en entirely different experience and find you actually enjoy going faster. Good luck with whatever you decide. :)

You should just research speed exercises and do those.

I am doing that right now!. Before I jogged at 4.5 mph and completed the C25k. Now I am doing it again at 5.0 and 5.5 mph.
  • Interesting idea....I'll have to give it some thought.

Let us know if you do try this! :)

Rundouble has a 5K improver program you might want to check out. It is a 14 week program with intervals - similar to their C25K
