"CHEAT MEAL"

How many people partake in a cheat meal. Is it something you plan - or just when you are going out? I was going to avoid completely, but realized, if I wanted Sushi (not just Sashimi), I'd have to allow the cheat.

I liken my life to a journey and every once in a while you have to make a pit stop...for some that maybe a quick stop to take a quick breather others may stick around the pit stop for awhile...
I don't think anything I eat is "cheating" - we all make choices. To me there will always be "exceptions" to the rules...like when I go to the movies I am eating movie popcorn...however i go to the movies maybe 2-3 times per year...
I personally enjoy sushi from time to time...most of the time I choose things like summer rolls where there isn't any rice or higher carb fixins...but every once in a while a roll speaks to me and I eat it...to me choosing a calfornia roll is a heck of a lot better than say a big plate of spagetti or some fast food meal...0 -
Have it. Enjoy every last bite of it. Make sure you are having a food-gasm while eating it. If not, it's not worth it0

I have one rule with cheat meals: never cheat with wheat. Other than that, I don't mind indulging in some sugar or some dairy (most of the time together) every once in awhile. Eat the sushi. Enjoy.0

What ricestephanie said. I'll go off once in a while, but not with wheat, fake sugar, or an abundance of cheese. The price I pay after eating that stuff makes it not worth it.0

Before I figured out that I was gluten intolerant, I'd cheat on occasion with cookies, cake, pie, whatever had sugar in it. But since I found out through doing Primal, and then strict Paleo, is that I have to figure out other things to cheat with. Typically it's dark chocolate, excessive amounts of fresh fruit, some good cheese, or a latte (no sugar and with whole milk). Under Paleo/Primal, these are technically not even cheats in the same sense as a cookie would be, but they are what my body can handle without causing inflammation issues.
I have to put my health first and my desire for food second. When I don't, my body lets me know just how pissed off it is. That being said, there are some things I can handle such as white rice with sushi. But the soy sauce is another story0 -
If sushi will be your "treat", I'd say get the sashimi, and indulge in some sushi. White rice is ok every once in a while, even with the little bit of sugar they add to it. I wouldn't "treat" with that supermarket sushi, though.
You might want to bring your own coconut aminos to use instead of soy, or ask for tamari, if you're very wheat sensitive. I just usually say what the hell and use the soy sauce. It's a treat.0 -
I haven't had a cheat day yet (paleo month 5 coming up) but I am thinking that Christmas Day I will eat a couple sugar cookies with my son!0

Thank you - I am finding Paleo challenging, but definitely doable. I guess I will allow the "cheat" if I need it. As far as the Sushi goes - we were at a Restaurant - and it was good. I had some sushi/ Maki - but tried to stick mostly with the Sashimi. I will say one thing so far - I had my gallbladder out 5 years ago - and since then, I hadn't been able to consume beef, I've started to add it back - and have been doing okay. Not sure why it bothered me so much when I wasn't following the Paleo lifestyle, but glad its back!0

I am not able to "cheat" because it only takes one screw up to be back to binging. It can take me months, or years, to get back on track. I'm not getting off-track again because I may not survive it. So, no grains or legumes.
However, there are some foods that I don't eat much of now that I will have more often once I am at a healthy weight. Things like fruit, potatoes, honey, and "substitutes" (grain free crackers, cookies, etc).0
