Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get back into ketosis after having 2 not so great days?

It depends on the individual's body but for me after a carb filled weekend binge it would take me roughly 2-3 days to begin showing traces of ketones and I'm usually back in on the morning of the 4th day.

I dont think its a magic pill to get into Ketosis after a fall off the wagon. I think that you have to use up the glyogen or whatever it is that you put into your body before you body will move on to fat use. I also think the how fast you get back into Ketosis is relative. If your new it could be another two weeks of induction type eating or it could be tomorrow.... it really depends on you, your body, and how strict you are with carb now.

When I fall off the wagon I just make sure that I make a full effort to keep my Carb low the next couple of days. Depending on how far I fell will determine the struggle. Recently I started having a cup or two of grapes at night... and it just continued. Leading to more than a few days of over 100 gms of carbs. Today I have made every effort to restrict my carbs but I feel like crap. I am tired. And I have that hunger sensation that is not real. I know that I was feeding the carb monster and that I would feel totally better if I just got me a bag of chips... but I wont. And thats about all I can do. I know that I could feel better tomorrow or the craving could continue for a couple of days before I am back to my low carb energetic self. Kinda like heroine... I think

I hope this helps. Just stay the course. And dont dwell on your falls. Focus on today. Then maybe later we can worry about tomorrow

All our bodies can store is 36-48 hours worth of glycogen, according to Dr. Atkins. After 48 hours you should be back in ketosis. Check a strip in the morning and see. I too will be ketone stripping in the morning. My induction started Tuesday morning. My last real carb meal was Monday night, so I'm hoping to see purple or dark pink on the strip in the a.m. Hope this helps.

While we're on this subject, I have a question about the strips. I just bought ketostix and was wondering how accurate they are and when is the best time to test.

I usually drink 10-12 glasses of water per day and also wondered how that might change things as that probably dilutes the urine.

As I understand it the stix are very unreliable indicators of how deep you are in ketosis.

Bear in the mind that you are only measuring what is being expelled, how many ketones are being generated and used is another matter (i.e. the levels in the blood).

As you become more adept at producing ketones you will be using more, so expelling less as a proportion and only a blood ketone monitor will give you an accurate indication of how deep the ketosis is.

It really doesn't matter what shade shows up on the ketostix as long as they are not in the "neutral" then your body is in ketosis. Usually when you show the darker pruple shades it really means that you are dehydrated as the ketostix only show what ketones you are expelling NOT what your body is using. Just know ketosis is ketosis, so even if shows light pink then yeah your body is burning fat for energy!
FYI I usually find that if you do really really low carb for a day (Induction phase 20 carbs or less) you can get back into ketosis within 24 to 36 hours. But that could just be my own experience.
