Tell me about zumba...

Okay, I've heard of it, I've seen ads for it on tv.

I pretty much loathe anything that makes me breathe hard, and struggle to leave that mindset. Not into sports, or running (god no...), have joined gym many times, (if only I could pay someone to GO for me and me get the benefits...)

I can walk forever, and sometimes have enjoyed dancing, on an evening out, or at least I seem to remember enjoying it, some time ago, when I used to go out at night?? lol.

What I want to know about zumba:

Is it actually fun?

How hard is it? How difficult physically, and is a lot of coordination necessary?

Are the dance patterns very complicated?

Am i going to look like a pale whale, surrounded by dozens of svelte sexy latino ladies?

Zumba is fun and the great part is you don't even have to be good at it. Yes there will be some skinny minnies that know all the moves but there will also be every other shape, size, and fitness level. When they lift their knee up really high you just lift yours as high as you feel comfortable. Some instructors are way easier to follow so hope you get a good one! Oh and you will breath hard. Thats why Zumba is great because you can burn over 600 calories in 1 hour. My friend burns closer to 800

I actually had fun when I did it a few times. I am totally uncoordinated and messed up on some of the steps but nobody cares and it's fun! Lots of different people go to zumba. It is a good workout but it goes by fast I find and everyone is laughing and having a good time.
  • I have done Zuma and Nia....... If you want to start out slow, try a Nia class. It is dance also, but slower moves. You can wear lose
fitting clothing and no shoes. Go on websites and you tube sites to check out dances of each. Both types of exercise are really a "free for all" on what you want to do with your movement. It is just plan FUN exercise :-). !!!!!!

Zumba is great fun, you will dance an hour, but it feels like 30 minutes, because you are having so much fun! As with any exercise you get out of it what you put into it. So rock the Zumba and dont give a care, if you have the move exactly right, no one cares they are trying to hard to get the move right too. If a move doesnt feel comfortable to me "I do what I want'' and I will look at the lady next to me and in a bratty tone I'll say "I do what I want" I always get a laugh out of that statement. Go have some fun and give Zumba a try!

Zumba is fun. If you have every liked to dance in your life, I really think you will like Z. It takes around 3 classes to really get the moves, but everyone is watching the instructor to see what she is doing so pay no attention to you. Wear whatever you are comfortable in. There will be those is 'official' Zumba attire, but most will be in other things. I do sweat, but don't realize it because I'm having fun. I wear a stupid grin on my face the whole time. Give it a try - what do you have to lose?

Love Zumba! No one can do all the steps. Just go to have a good time. You should try some of the videos on youtube if you are hesitant about going to your first class, and if you don't enjoy it immediately, try a different instructor or different class before you give up on it completely.

Okay. My daughter's dance place offers Zumba on Monday nights I think, that I normally should be able to get to, if I kick myself in the butt to go. (Which obviously hasn't happened yet.)

I have ladies guild meeting for kids school tomorrow night... but the next week, I have no excuse planned, AND... I have to report back to you guys, right?

I'll let you know how it goes. Hopefully I don't injure myself...lol. Good idea to try a youtube version first, will do that tonight once I've got the little dumplings strapped into their beds.

I love to exercise. I love to dance. I love step class and really any group class that has music.

    Except Zumba.

I tried it once and I couldn't follow ANY of it. I stayed a total of 8 minutes before I left feeling completely demoralized.

Maybe I was hormonal. Maybe I was just feeling exceptionally uncoordinated that day. Maybe I'm fatally flawed in the one vital way that makes Zumba my nemesis. I really, really wanted to love it, too. Oh well -- c'est la vie!

    I hope you like it!

I tried Zumba on the Xbox. I could not follow it! It took more coordination than I had. I am thinking about taking a live class. Maybe I can follow a real person. My niece teaches it, but she doesn't live close by. She says they even have an older class. Was she calling me old?! LOL

    Why I love Zumba:

It lets me dance away the weight.
It lets me take my mind away from problems for however long I am dancing.
It brings me together with other friends laughing and having a great time.
It makes me feel sexier for my honey.
It gives me self confidence as I see my body change.
It gives me the energy to continue changing-growing and being a better me.

I have the Zumba video set and quite honestly didnt really like it :(. Guess I'm just used to my other videos. You should take a class to see if its for you.

Maybe a live class is lots more fun for this :)
