Hello I'm 521Diva on MFP, Kisha.

I've been having some challenges. I tried pretracking my food daily and burning more by working out. I gained 6 pounds.
I now have my
BMR 1597
TDEE 2754
RMR 1581
A site said I should eat 1702 calories with a deficit of 1057. Confused about this deficit word, looked it up and still confused.

My exercise usually consist of walking to and from the gym about 70 mins, aqua boot camp 50 mins, water aerobics 110 mins (in the mornings if I get there), 30 mins on the stationary bike, 15 mins in the steam room where u burn about 110 calories (using a HRM) Zumba and African dance.

A day I average about 1969, 2228, or 2717 calories burned (this is one from MFP diary).

For example, If I burn 2717 calories and eat 1597 in order to have 1000 cal deficit I should eat the 118 extra. Is this correct.

Please help me with the numbers. Calories burn- calories eaten= deficit

What about the days I don't workout?

You're not losing because your deficit is too high. eat more. stick with a 500 calorie deficit. IF your calorie burns are accurate (you need an hrm or bodyfit or body bugg for this) then you need to eat more. period.

ETA - also, I wouldn't count 'calories burned' in a steam room, because you're just sitting there, and sweating - this does not equal calories burned. this equals sweating out water weight.

Ok, but did I do the calculation right. So with that mush exercise I should eland up eating 2215 calories, is that correct?

Yes, essentially you should have around a 500 calorie deficit each day to lose 1lb per week (3500 calorie deficit per week).

If you're not eating enough, your body will hold on to what little you do feed it - and you will not lose. You MUST properly fuel your body. :)

Kisha - How often do you workout??? That seems like an *awful* long time. I workout 3x/week for 70 minutes. That's it. It's great that you're so active but it just seems like a LOT....I don't really have an answer about calories...
