Slip up

Hello everyone,
I was hoping you all could share your advice. What do you do to keep a slip up from turning into a downward spiral? What do you tell yourself; what actions do you take? Also, how do you keep from beating yourself or even worse giving up?
What I found to be helpful was to continue to track my food and to talk about it here.
I look forward to reading your input. Thanks everyone!

What helps me the most is that I do not deny myself something - if I want it, I get a small piece or serving of it to take care of the craving; and then continue on my day. That way I do not feel deprived, I still keep track of my calories as I annotate it on the log, and don't give up or feel guilty about over doing it. This has helped me extremely over the last 2 years in losing these 40 lbs.0

Hi SusannaDandan,
(Posted this as a reply to your friend post but thought I'd post here in case you didn't see the other one)
First off, we've got your back, we're here for you:) Secondly, I have just gone through the past number of days/week of being over my calories by quite a bit. The thing that worked for me was looking around the MFP Community board and reading success stories and any topic that called to me. I found a 30 Day Shred group (Jillian Michaels) and signed up! I did my first workout today and I feel like I'm totally back in the game! Please remember that one individual week or a few off days does NOT define your success or failure. Truly, never give up! You can do this! Sending you a super power hug0 -
I'm going through a bad week right now ;( I was afraid my period would de-rail me and it did. Also I signed up for the No weigh November so not having the scale may be affecting my motivation/accountability. Thinking of dropping out of the challenge. Any tips right now!!??0

I totally feel you right now! My husband is travelling and so it's just me and I'm craving wings. So not good but I'm doing it any ways. I'll make up for it by watching the election results and doing stuff then.0

Just keep accountable of yourself and keep tracking. Dropping out is your decision - but what is best for YOU in your goal? Doing that challenge or tracking your weight? That's the thing about challenges is to get you out of your comfort zone. I realize this is not an answer, but what I'm trying to get at is look at your options and make the best decision that is available to you in reaching your goals. Because bottom line - you have to live with the decision, not worry about what everyone else thinks. You have to do what is best for YOU. Does that make sense?
And if you drop this challenge, there are other challenges out there to complete - this is not the only one. So take you time, deliberate, and make your decision. We will be here to support you in whatever decision you make and help you reach your goals - even in those little hiccups. :bigsmile:0 -
I usually look at old posts on my MFP profile page and remind myself that I started this and was doing well!
Also, I look in the "success stories" forum threads.0 -

I need to get back into my 30ds. Anyone think we should start together?? For me doing that *kitten* kicking workout makes me want to stick to the plan and not ruin my efforts by eating poorly.0

I do the 30 day shred inconsistently too...I need more of a focus where my exercise is concerned. I will start it with you if you'd like...maybe a 30 day shred thread to keep each other accountable perhaps?0 -

Sounds good! I will start the thread and we will see who wants to join us! Thanks!0 -
OK. So, yeah. I've slipped up. Went crazy a couple of weeks after finding out my son will soon be deployed AGAIN, less than six months from his homecoming from his last deployment. Hubby was dealing some depression (he's fighting cancer) and my mom, God bless her, is a little older now and needs a little more loving care as well. I guess I just got into the caregiver blues and couldn't find my way out for a while.
But I'm back, baby, and determined to get it done. Got up at 5 and got my gym workout early. Felt really good to get back into it!!
I do have a questions for anyone who not only does cardio, but lifts as well.
I find that splitting up my cardio helps me pass the time better, and so my routine consists of a 10 minute warm up on the treadmill, 30 minutes of lifting, followed by 20 of the elliptical for a total of 60 minutes. Does anyone with any long term lifting experience see where this would hinder me? I mean, most of my friends want to get all the cardio in first; and tell me 10 minutes isn't enough warm up time. But I'm not dawdling on the treadmill, I'm walking at a 3.6 speed with a 7 % incline. My HR is normally around 130 or so by the time I'm done. They say I should do all my cardio first.

Jules, I would not worry. I do the same as you. Work out what is comfortable for YOU. Just becasue that is what works for them maynot work for you too. I am sure there are arguments both ways, "after cardio your body is in fat burning mode, blah, blah, blah," but again do what makes you feel good, because at the end of the day, you are the one that needs to be happy. If you want to try to switch it up later, do that when it's convient on your time and you feel open to adjusting your routine.0
