404 - Brain not found (tired after yoga)

Two times a week, I go to a yoga class that’s offered at my workplace. (I know, pretty awesome, right? Corporate sponsored free yoga!)
A lot of times after class, I get unbelievably tired. Not just “That was good exercise” tired but “404 – Error: brain not found. Please reboot” nearly-catatonic tired. I know that it’s going to happen now, so I make sure to have a full bottle of water and a protein bar at hand for me to munch on while I’m driving home so I don’t zone out while I’m behind the wheel. But if I don’t shower and then eat dinner very shortly after I get home, I will get freezing cold and then fall asleep sitting up in a chair.
It doesn’t always happen – it seems to be worse during a class when we do a lot of twists. And it doesn’t happen when I do other exercises, like jogging. I’m not much of a runner, but I can go for about 45 min of walking/jogging and get home and feel energized and ready to do stuff. Alternatively, I’ve done cardio videos in my living room and had the same freezing, sleepy response as I’ve had after yoga.
I cannot figure out what the cause is behind this. Does anybody have any ideas? I’d really like to stop losing that part of my day after class a couple times a week. Plus, it doesn’t feel great and I’m a little bit worried.
For reference, I’m 244 pounds, 5’4”, large framed (7” wrist) and work a desk job, so I don’t move around much. I haven’t been regularly exercising great amounts (working on that more now), but I have been doing yoga regularly for months and months (since about January). I’ve been doing yoga for years, but got out of practice until the beginning of this year.

Twists are detoxing and balancing, somewhat calming. If you are experiencing brain drain you may not be getting enough oxygen to your brain. Are you inhaling before you twist by lifting your sternum, then exhaling as you twist from your navel area? Sometimes in twists it's challenging to inhale as deeply as usual. I'm just taking a wild guess here. Notice how you're breathing in twists and maybe not go so deep in the twist for now.
It's awesome that you get free yoga 2x a week. Lucky duck.0 -
Could be anything, really.
Could be, as yogichic said, you're holding your breath.
Could be a bad sequence (which would explain why some days you do not feel tired), could be too short of a savasana, could be you're not getting enough sleep at night, could be you're turning your neck too far, could be diet related, get the idea?
Usually when I'm tired out after yoga, one of the following things is true:
1. it was a hard practice for me, I feel wrung out - usually I can read after these, but not always
2. I'm just plain tired - whereas if I go for a walk, I'll usually wake up a bit, but if I go to a yoga practice I'll feel exhausted - I do a home practice on days like this with lots of seated poses and reclined poses.
3. I got overly hungry during practice, ate a bunch of food afterward, then didn't want to move the rest of the day.
Hope that helps. Oh, and the twists thing? No idea. Could be doing a lot of forward bends the same day (can make you sleepy) or it could be they are hard for you.0 -
Maybe try a small snack about an hour before the class? Or maybe drink some water with Emergen-C beforehand?0
