Pre-surgery laxative

I know...not a pleasant subject. But I don't normally take one and I have to take one two days prior to surgery...but I am not familiar with them and was wondering what the best kind is? Did anyone else have to take one before surgery?

    My surgeon has you take a bottle of magnesium citrate the day before surgery. It came in fruit flavors so didn't taste to bad and I had been on a liquid diet for 2 weeks so wasn't too bad.
