I am meeting my Mom and some other relatives and we are going out to eat for Thanksgiving. I will eat a small bite of things I enjoy but focus on protein of the turkey. I will eat a normal breakfast and get in my 80 oz of water too. Having the sleeve as my tool helps me to eat a small amount and still feel full. I think we are going to a buffet which really aren't the best for a WLS person but oh well! It is kinda a waste of money to eat there but that is what they want to do.
I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving!0 -
I have a much smaller menu planned for both meals. Who needs to cook 20 different things anyway?!? Plus when I go to my larger family gathering my tiny plate and tiny utensils will be coming with me!!0

At first I was going to say - sleep, read, walk, sew and sleep. Then I thought of the food challenges - I will not make the usual big batches of cookies and sweets. I have figured out a plan for the dinner rolls that I make and are always requested - I will make them but then take our portion out and give the rest to the neighbors. That way we can have my rolls but won't have the leftovers or more than a portion available. My recicpe makes 24 rolls. As for sweets - will just make a couple of kinds of cookies - and again find some deserving neighbor or friend to gift the rest. This way I am not giving up everything but not eating everything. Oh and I plan on walking and working out religiously during the next 2 months. And then I will sleep, read, walk and sew!!! :laugh:0

My sister is doing the cooking this year. I know she will have things I shouldn't eat so my plan is just not eat them. I'm bringing my mother's dressing recipe and will know exactly what is in it. I, too, am going to focus on the turkey breast. I haven't had surgery yet but have really been watching my food intake. My major problem is portion control. I wish all of you the very best Thanksgiving ever!0

We host every year and this year is no different. We have a large menu planned, though we never make desserts we usually ask our guest to bring them, and so far no one seems all that interested. Other than having a plate less than half the physical size of everyone else and making sure I stay within my limits portion wise I have no other plans then to skip whatever desserts do show up unless they are sugar free.0

My family, other than my sons, and a brother who is always busy, is all deceased. The last few years I have cooked Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for myself and my sons and wound up throwing much of it away. We aren't doing the dinners this year, and can't go out because of financial problems. Just regular meals here those days. Haven't had a Christmas tree or given gifts since my sister died in 2005, so we won't do that this year either. Just a regular season here!0

I was thinking of trying to come up with a sugar free dessert, and anyone who wanrs to chime in, I would welcome your input.
Maybe a pie with sugar free, fat free pudding mix, with sugar free fat free cool whip on top? Perhaps some kind of graham cracker type crust, but I don't know if they have lo-cal versions. I could even put protein powder in the pudding, too. I make the pudding with protein and a dab of the SFFF coolwhip for snacks sometimes now, so the only addition would be some type of crust.
Any ideas or suggestions?0 -

Thought I could share this with the group.
Here is a Pumpkin Mousse that I make and put in a homemade graham cracker crust or just server in a pretty bowl with a bit of nutmeg \ cinnamon sprinkled on top. It is so yummy.
Low-fat, Low-carb PUMPKIN MOUSSE
Directions:
makes 1 batch
mix dry ingredients first
1/3 cup Splenda
1 pkg sugar free vanilla pudding
pumpkin pie spice as desired
1 cup skim milk
1 can 16oz unsweetened pumpkin (just your regular pureed pumpkin - not the Pumpkin Pie can)
2 cup fat-free or lite cool whip
It is yummy and my step-daughters did not know it was low in calories. Hubby loves it...0 -
Thanks for the recipe!0

My plan is to stay on track ! I did indulge in Halloween treats and feel terrible about it. Any suggestions to staying on track?0

Girl Halloween has been a pitfall for me...I finally finished off my stash today...lol...Thanksgiving and Christmas shouldn't be too bad as i won't have leftovers in the house. I have increased my calorie goal to be closer to maintenance mode....just trying not to fill the extra calories with empty calories....so hopefully after today I will be more on track!!0

We will have a smaller than usual group this year and have decided to do "the basics." I have adapted many recipes to be a lower fat/ cal version (evaporated fat free milk is great in mashed potato) and will REALLY concentrate on portion control. Everyone now leaves our house with goodie bags when there are leftovers and will make sure that happens on Th'gvg, too. Instead of the multiple pies and desserts we usually have, this year pumpkin pie and apple crisp were requested. Have been looking for a great low cal PP recipe--thank you, GSPA, for the mousse recipe. It sounds great, just need to find a great crust type of concoction.
My greatest challenge, I think, is to be hyper vigilant and prepared. No tasting...I will assign that to someone else!!
It is so wonderful to have this forum--thank you all!0 -
I will still be only liquids only.......but I plan to buy some pumpkin extract from the exotic spice shop and spice up my vanilla protein shake! LOL
By the time Christmas rolls around I will be transitioning from puree's to soft. I will definitely enjoy a bite or two of the praline sweet potato's but I'll still be in my "honeymoon" stage so it shouldn't be too bad. NEXT year, however, will be a different story!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully by the I will have build a strong armor against my weaknesses!! :happy:0
