new to atkins please read my diary

Hi everyone im completely new to Atkins. I have ordered the book but at the moment im just winging it as best I can. Could any experienced Atkins dieters please look at my diary and let me know if im doing anything drastically wrong. Ps most amounts are exagerated as I would rather log to much than top little abs going over on the carbs x thankyou x

What I will notice is so far my skins cleared up. I'm now having to remember to eat rather than stuffing ny face at every opportunity. And other than the one day I went crazy and had to have something sweet and opted for the dreaded Atkins bar as I thought it would be safer than gorging a chocolate cake, I feel much more in control of my eating!

    Hi Carina

I also just started- I am kind of winging a lowcarb/Atkins/Scarsdale thing

I took a look at your diary and only saw one thing they advised against - the cottage cheese. It is one cheese they say not to use in the first phase. ( that made me sad, I like cottage cheese)
Plus as I was shopping (reading labels in the store for hours) the 'light' 'diet' 'low fat' type items mostly seemed to be adding Sugars which are also carb to make up for taking out the fats. All of the normal products I was reading labels on had less or no sugar compared to their low fat or 'diet' labeled counterparts.

    Good luck and happy Thanksgiving

I would recommend eating more vegetables, some days you have less than 10 carbs and little to no veggies. If you want to move through the phases you'll have to get used to eating more veggies and carbs. They recommend 12-15 grams of carbs from veggies alone.

I also notice that some days it seems like you eat excessive amounts of protein in a sitting, almost 1000 calories of bacon and one day I saw 500 calories of chicken. Also very large amounts of cheese. I believe calories do matter when doing low carb, I would cut out some of the meat/cheese and again, add more veggies.

One of the sticky posts at the top of the forum warns about the dangers of doing too low carb/calorie, you might want to read that.

Sorry, I forgot which forum I'm in, the sticky thread about the dangers of going too low is in the low carb forum. It's a generic forum for everyone doing low carb. You can search it under groups, it has helpful information too.

Did you know you can change your diary settings under Goals, to lower your carb count in the MFP totals?

MFP Home > Goals > Change Goals > Custom

    I have mine set to:
    1800 calories
    5% carbs
    30% protein
    65% fat
