This may sound a bit strange, but it's something I need to know.
Has anyone lost weight/inches while eating high sodium? I know it is supposed to cause bloat and that it goes away after 2-3 days or something, but what if it's everyday. Will sodium make me get bigger (even if it's not fat gain) and make me stay bigger?
The simple answer would be that most of you would like to say is "eat less sodium". I wish I could explain why, but it's a personal thing. I just can't right now. I am scared I will undo all my progress over stupid sodium (again I can't explain much further).
Is it possible, even with eating high sodium close to daily, that the bloat/water retention can go away? I feel like crap in the mirror (scale too, but I base most of this on image).

I would think it's possible if you drink a lot of a water and nothing else to flush it out, you will have retention but upper water intake should help flush out the sodium. Although too high sodium can be bad for your heart just be careful!
Sorry I don't have more input, I'm trying to be low on sodium! If I'm wrong sorry! But from I have learned I believe that is what would happen0 -
If eating slightly higher sodium all the time consistently, than you'll just have a higher mass of water for the weight. Same loss or gain is going to happen since water has no energy in it.
Only time it would be annoying is if you go up and down, leading to false weight gain and loss, just confusing things. Overall direction over bigger span of time would still be useful.
But here's an interesting fact, if you leave the increased weight out of the picture.
Water weight is NOT fat weight, it is Lean Body Mass, which is everything but fat.
Guess what the major energy use of the BMR is? Water management in the cells.
When your LBM goes up, even for water retention, your metabolism goes up. Whether that be retained water in muscles for repair, more water stored with increased glucose stores, higher water volume in the blood, or higher water retained in cells because of higher sodium.
Now a gut full of water doesn't do much, except for the body warming up cold water, which is minor, and then processing it. Well, and carrying around extra weight as water in the gut adds some extra energy burn, minor again.
Here's study that showed increase of 3.5lbs of LBM in 6 wks causes RMR to go up 7%.
