Specialist Appointment - Anyone Else Been In This Position?

Options
Hello Everyone,

Had an appointment with the Specialist yesterday, I saw him 6 months ago and he brushed me off telling me "loose weight" then come back! Anyway, when I first went I was 292lbs and a BMI of 44, now I am 248 and a BMI of 37.

He has booked me an appt. to go back in January, he was so impressed I had lost weight, if I can loose 2 more stone between now and the next appt, then my BMI will be under 35 which means I can be given Clomid, which he is confident will help me to ovulate regularly.

Sadly, we have another "issue" that my fiance had a low sperm count - again, specialist was confident that if he looses more weight and keeps up the heatlhy lifestyle then he too will have much improved results in a couple of months when he has to do another sperm sample - we have also bought him "Wellman" tablets for conception.

Fingers, toes etc crossed!

Has anyone else been in this position?! Feeling happy, will keep loosing weight and fingers crossed it will happen natuarally for us :)

x

I haven't gone to a specialist, I see my regular obgyn and I am about at your first weight, but that was never an issue, they always issued me the meds. My dr. was more concerneed with my blood pressue this 2nd round. But I have heard over and over ( lose weight, and it will help) so good for you!! Keep up the good work!

Congrats on the weight loss! All of us here know it's not easy. :)

My reproductive endocrinologist also told me to take 6 months to focus on losing weight to help control my PCOS. I had two rounds of clomid and still did not ovulate, so she felt I would have more success if I controlled the PCOS as much as possible first. I also had issues of uterine polyps, so we treated the polyps while I lost weight.

The dr also said that if I were another year or two older that she would not have had me wait. That losing weight would help, but not as much as it would have hurt to wait. Make sense? I feel like I am not wording that very clearly.

I've lost 60+ lbs in the mean time (7 months) and my BMI is exactly 30, so now I am "only" overweight. My estrogen and testosterone are normal and my ovaries are no longer showing signs of PCOS. It was hard and I needed to take drastic measures, but now I'm feeling the healthiest I've felt in a long time.

My partner is also overweight and had a low-ish sperm count (total count was low, but good motility so overall it was low end of normal). She advised him to lose weight too because fat mimics estrogen so as she puts it "the testes get lazy and decide not to work." He's lost 102 lbs (414 -> 312) but we haven't rerun his test yet. The dr. said that it takes 3-4 months for sperm to be affected by lifestyle changes, so his count might be still a little low.

It's our first month of officially TTC again, but she thinks I won't need as much help as I would have before.

Crossing fingers for you and sending good baby vibes!

oh, and I was given both rounds of clomid with a BMI of 43. Did your doctor say why you needed to be under BMI 35 to start clomid?
