Ups and Downs

Just wanted to share a little bit about my Insanity journey and how it has affected my life. Yesterday was a kind of up and down day. I worked my regular shift and then hustled home for some Insanity. I had to hurry to get it done because I had a rehearsal for our symphony's Christmas concert. I sing with our symphony and am nervous about this little solo I am doing. I really worked hard during the Insanity workout and was really pleased at the evidence that I am getting stronger. About 2/3 of the way through the Insanity workout, I started getting a stitch in my side. It did not go away and I had a really hard time at the rehearsal. It was distracting and really uncomfortable.
I read up on what causes a stitch in the side. No one really knows exactly what causes them but several of the websites listed that exercising beyond your current fitness level can cause a problem. During the exercise, the breathing becomes shallower and that may contribute to having the stitch in the side. I really pushed during my workout yesterday so of all the things I read about, this one seems the most plausible for me.
Another problem is that my weight is just not budging. I have been at a plateau since May. I simply cannot get my weight to drop lower than 185. I was eating 1500 calories but have upped that for Insanity. Most days I am eating around 1800 calories with some days closer to 2200. At 5' 7" and 185 pounds, this is reasonable for me. I have finished week 1 plus the first day of week 2. I weigh each morning and my weight just goes up and down, but never, ever below 185.
I am just feeling a little discouraged. But I am not quitting. I just need to readjust. So I am committing to myself to the following:
1. I will weigh only on fit test days. No more obsessing with the weight each day. I don't need that craziness in my head.
2. I will rest when I need to. I will take breaks when needed during the workout and take rest days as needed.
3. I will keep going. I will not stop. I will continue Insanity and continue this journey.
4. I will seek out support and love from those who understand. I will reach out to my MFP Insanity group and to my family and friends.

We all have our ups and downs, I know I do! Don't be discouraged at all, just because the scale isn't moving doesn't mean your body isn't changing. The scale hasn't moved for me either and I'm on week 4! It's tough, but you'll get through it. Even though the scale isn't moving for me, the clothes are feeling looser and I feel better about myself. I have more energy and I'm happier.
I've upped my calories also in hopes of the scale to budge and you know what, hard work pays off. It will move in the direction that we want it too! Just keep doing what you're doing. Eat clean and dip deep. We're all in this together!0 -
Ditto what Sovannac said: we all have our ups and downs.
Some times it feels like we won't get there or nothing is budging - but it will! If you're trying to do the right thing and educate yourself about things, you WILL get there eventually, because you enabling yourself to get there.
I wholeheartedly support you in not weighing yourself too often. Just to share from my own experience, but when I started to tell myself that the "number" wasn't what mattered, but my actions and rather looked at the progress made e.g. firmer, fitter, looser fitting clothes etc the number lost its power.
I'm really proud of your for sticking with it, but I'm also impressed that you know your limits. It's better to take a rest than to push yourself too hard. Like Shaun T stresses :work within your skill set. If you can't do the push ups after awhile, do them on your knees or take a break etc. If you do that, you'll progress.Remember, the people who are doing the video have been doing it for months to get to that stage . That's what we have to work towards, and aren't expected to do it straight away.
Congrats on the solo, by the way !Good luck on your journey! I know that you can get there!0
