Calorie Intake 5 months Post-Op

Hi All...

I will be 5 months post-op next week and I'm still struggling with my calorie intake. I get enough protein, I'm drinking 4 or 5 a day, but food just has no appeal to be so I'm averaging between 600-700 calories per day, 800-900 on a good day and I'm exercising.

Any advice on getting more calories and how many I should be getting per day is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I asked my surgeon at my three month checkup about my lack of appetite. It wasn't that I was having problems eating, or unable to tolerate or keep things down, I was just really not interested. He told me that it was one of the hormonal changes the RNY produced, and that it would last six months, maybe nine if I was lucky. So I figured I would take advanrage of it while I could. It is a little scary to think about food cravings coming back, though.

As for the number of calories and such you should be eating, that's a question you should ask your surgeon and nutritionist.

Yes, you should take advantage of this time!! I was told that the sleeve takes away the hormone that produces hunger and that they would be surprised if I felt it at all, and unfortunately I feel like I battle hunger pangs a lot.

My dietitian and surgeon set my calorie goal for 1000 a day, with the protein between 60-80 grams. I am only two months post op and seldom hit that 1000 mark. I do find that my desire for most food is just non existent, really. Only a couple of foods appeal to me. Whether I "want" to eat or not, I know that I need to space my meals and snacks throughout the day in order to meet my needs.

Crap. I was afraid of that. But that's why I admire the folks on here who have kept the weight off long term. This early part has been easy in comparison.

My NUT and dietician told me not to even worry about caloric intake but, rather, to worry about protein needs instead.

At 6 months, I was eating between 1000-1200 a day.... and now being almost 9 months out, I around the 1200-1300 mark. The odd day I can put back 1400 or so............. but those are days I have worked out very hard and am starving!

I dont stress about my calorie intake too much. Some days I can get up to 1200 and some I am around 800...I average 1100 or so most of the time. It is all about protein protein protein. :) Especially on work out days! I am now 8 months out. I am thinking at around 5 months I was still around 700-800 or so.
