Motivation

Hey all,
I am loving all of these posts up at the moment - they have some great ideas and stories. I love reading them.

I need a little help.

I am getting back into losing weight and aiming to eat healthy. I want a great weigh in for next week, and I want that to continue. I am getting the hang of the food, but not so much the exercise. It used to be the other way around - I used to be an exercise freak!

I get free gym and swim where I work - but somehow I do not have enough moivation to go yet. I haven't done either for a long time. Is it confidence? Or am I just lazy?

When I waitress, it is crazy hours. When I am off work I don't want to go to my work place to work out! It's a catch 22. Any advice? I was trying to get in some swimming time before work if I am working breakfast (I would start at 7 or 8am) and gym time before the eveing shift (5-6pm) Any advice?

I just need a kick up the bum! x

I can understand where you are coming from because i use to be a workout demon. I have a few injuries now so i have had to back off a bit and like you the motivation is lagging. It is so much easier to just hit the snooze alarm or think ill do it later but for me sadly if i don't do it first thing in the morning i will just find excuses during the day and before you know it the day is gone.

You just need to make yourself a plan and stick to it. Nothing to big..make small goals and reward yourself when you reach one. Like in my calendar i have it set up where if i workout for 14 days i will buy myself some new workout clothes or maybe some new music to run or bike to..something not food related.

I don't think you are lazy..you work so i am sure you are on you feet most of the day. That counts for something. Swimming sounds wonderful and you get it for free i would be all over that ;)

Anyway i hope i have helped a little. Good luck...

You are not lazy. You have just gotten out of the habit of working out and feeling those endorphins pumping. I agree that all you need is a plan. I find that I set myself up for failure when my plan is too ambitious. If my plan is to walk for an hour, lift weights and stretch every day, I fail. If my plan is to walk for 15 minutes, I usually feel great and walk farther and longer. Start slow, start today, but start!

I had that problem in the past weeks (seems I struggle a lot latley) But I told myself (thats whats going on in my head): Okay so you think, you have no time to go there and workout? No one ios holding you back to go for a walk instead! No one said, you need to run, no one said, you need to do this or that, you just need to do! Do not think it over, just go for the walk!

Really no one should be in my head sometimes *lol*
Think you get what I mean! Every bit of move beats the one sitting on the couch! (I love that)

misskim13bee: Thanks gals for posting suggestions and encourgement for Kim. I am sure that meant a lot to her. And all of you are correct in your suggestions.

There are times I don't want to work out..believe it or not! I find I just have to make myself do it and I always feel better afterwards.

Remember your end goal and it is your choice to get there. What would be your biggest motivation to get there? Keep that printed in your mind.

Walks are good. Even a slow pace is better than nothing. And once you are out there.....motivation kicks in and you will find yourself walking faster. Think of this," Do the action and the feelings will follow."

You don't want to go back where you work to work-out or swim. I work out at home so, what about getting a DVD and doing that at home? There are a lot of great ones out there!

And yes, a plan works. Write on a calender or write your plan on paper and put it where you will see it throughout the day.
I am doding the 6 month work-outs from the book New Rulesl Of Lifting For Women, training for a 5K and doing a DVD of Jillian Michaels. Each one is a planned program which is what I need or else I find myself wandering away from it.
Mon-Wed-Fri I do my weight lifting.....Sunday, Tues. & Thurs. I do my 5K Training and 4-5 times a week I do the DVD.

Like the gals said...start small, but get-a-movi'n!!!
  • Thank you for all of the suggestions lovelies! I needed some help with my motivation.

I have just finished work and I am on early breakfast shift tomorrow morning, but I actually feel like I want to get up early and do a workout now :)

Speaking of DVD's - I have a Davina workout dvd that I purchased a couple of months ago. I will do that tomorrow! I have a yoga one too...

I am also going to look in zumba classes where I work - I used to go 3 times a week, I do miss it terribly!

Thank you all again for your help. If I get stuck, I will look back on this post! x :)
