Hot Tub - Yea or Nea?

We're going to my parent's beautiful lake house in Coeur d'Alene, ID for Christmas and they have a great hot tub overlooking the water... OB say's it's okay following these rules: 10 minutes or less - Without completely submerging all body parts - At a lowered temperature at or below 100 degrees - not in the 1st trimester

At Christmas I'll be 18 weeks, so I'm tempted but still wary.

In your opinion/experience, how safe is a hot tub during pregnancy?

Thanks!!

I'd enjoy it! The biggest threat is your body temp getting too high, so just follow your OBs advise and go for it!

The temp needs to be turned down! The average hot tub is way too hot! I needs to be more like bath water.

I went in the hot tub a few times during this pregnancy. I did what your OB said (didn't spend more than 10 minutes at a time in it). And it wasn't *that* hot. I think you'll be fine. Enjoy!

For me, it's a no. The main risk is the possibility of heating your core temperature. Water less than 100 degrees is perfectly safe, however, so if you can get it that low then I would enjoy it. The only thing is that 100 degrees isn't very hot. It's warm for sure but I'm not sure it'll be warm enough for the rest of your family's liking. ;) Have fun with whatever you decide!!

Can you sit on the side with your feet in? That's normally what I do so it doesn't raise my body temp too high. Feels great on your feet too.

Lower temp in the hot tub increases risk of fungal or bacterial infection also, so I would avoid sitting in it.

Another Ditto to Pregosaurus & RBX.

I would just soak my feet/calves. Great excuse to have Hubby rub massage them while he's soaking :)
