Calories?

So, I've booked an appointment for tomorrow with my gym to start the SL 5x5 - show me the form, introduce me to the Girls Keep Out weights area, select starting weights, that sort of thing.

I'm currently netting a deficit of 500 per day (200 on hard workout days) and doing cardio for a trialthon - BF% around 30%. I have a crap strength programme which is why I'm telling them to set me up on 5x5 :)

I believe I'm in that lucky "lose fat gain muscle fat-beginner" stage, so should I up my calories to maintenance to get the full benefits of lifting heavy?

I'm still at a slight deficit. I may not be progressing as fast as I would on maintenance, but I still have 30ish lbs to lose to be in a healthy range - though I'm paying more attention to waist size than lbs.

depends... are you still trying to lose weight? If you are I would stay at a deficit... maybe a smaller deficit.

I was eating 2100+ but I decided to cut back to 1900 because I'm getting a little pudgy............. lol....

If I were in your shoes, I 'd eat maintenance and try for a recomposition. Also, go check out the post I just made on the check in thread. Its relevant to this but I don't want to just copy paste it everywhere.

I probably have about 10lbs to shed in weight terms, but that's going to be recomposition. I want to reduce BF% to somewhere below 25% and then see what I look like, and I want my waist and hips to be smaller than 28" and 36" (last time I was at those measurements I was skinny-fat at about 116lbs. Not going there again!)

So, yes, sort of to losing weight, but I'm more interested in gaining strength and letting the scale take care of itself. 500cal seems to be to much of a deficit to do that, based on what I've read.

I will checkout the check-in thread, thanks.
