Goal: (mostly) run/jog a 5K
Running is not part of my exercise routine, but I tried running with my dogs a little during our walks and I actually liked it! My plan is to use the C25K program, I just have to get somewhere that has wi-fi so I can download it. In the meantime, I printed out Jeff Galloway's 5K training schedule, so I'll go with that until I can get the app. Hopefully my inhaler is still good. I hadn't needed it over the summer, but I usually do during fall and winter. I'm also doing NROLFW, so I'll train for the 5K on alternate days. My ultimate goal is to run/walk 10 miles at the next Relay for Life (June '13) without my legs feeling like they're about to break off like this year!

Yay! Very nice! Just take the running part SLOW, like, slower than you feel like you should be running, and you'll get there!
Glad to hear you had fun! I don't take my dog out- she only weighs six lbs and is quite prissy, she would expect to be carried for most of it. Ha!0 -
That sounds like a very realistic goal! I definitely think you could do that.
And beanzy (stealing beast's name for you cause I like the way it sounds), I wouldnt expect you to have a prissy dog. Lol0 -

I wouldn't expect that either! I dogsat for my friend, and she has a miniature schnauzer. I thought she wanted to run, so I ran with her. We got back to the house, and she was the one out of breath! Apparently they don't run with her. Oh, and I changed my plan. I'm going to start wogging at night, because I still want to finish this damn Zumba game so I can get to all the levels, and I want to start Turbo Fire. Thank you for the encouraging words! ♥0 -
I also wanted to say, 105 is such an inspiration to me! I can't wait to get there!0

I did my first wog/slog! I don't know how long I did anything after the first 4 minutes because my ipod died and I don't have a backlight on my hrm. I do know I jogged 2 1/2 minutes straight before I had to walk because I was going uphill and didn't want to wear myself out too soon. That's when it died on me. I honestly didn't think I'd make it past a minute without having to stop.

That's great! You are on your way!!! I frigging hate when my music dies. It's the WORST! Good job keeping it up past that, and I'm so proud that you ran 2.5x what you thought your limit was! AWESOME!0

Thanks, Bean!!
Tonight my 15 minutes turned into 23 because I had to keep pulling my pants up from the back, and I accidentally turned off the timer on my ipod. I didn't even think to use the light from my ipod to check the time on my watch. Derrrr. So I restarted the timer, then every time I went to check my time, the music would stop, and when I went to turn my music back on I couldn't see my timer anymore! Not a good night for me ipod-wise, but I did jog more than I walked, that I know for sure!0 -
I went up to the daycare center because I remembered they had a walking trail that ran around the entire block. There used to be a sign there that told you the distance of each lap, but it was gone, so I have no idea of the distance. I thought it was flat, but I was wrong. The incline was killing me! It was like when I try to run in my dreams, and my legs are trying to go, but they just won't go fast enough. I'm pretty happy that I was able to run 3 minutes straight!
Walk 1 min
Run 3 mins
Walk 1 min
Run 3 mins
Walk 1 min
Run 1 min (I was at the incline here)
Walk 1 min
Run 2 mins
Walk 2 mins
Total: 16 mins0 -
Look at the progress your making. Good for you. I'm right there with you. We can do this.0

Thanks, Lori!0

I really need to find a good place to do this! My neighborhood has too many steep inclines. I'm going to try at the elementary school next. I remembered they had a path around the field and playground, and I think it's more even. Plus there are lights. Lights are good!
walk - 2 mins
run - 3 mins? this is where I accidentally turned off my timer. Again.
The rest was running and walking, but I can't even remember the times now because I'd get to a hill and feel like I couldn't run anymore, so the times are uneven. Total was 21 mins.0 -
Great work! I'm wondering about those training programs you mentioned... have you started either of them? The C25K of Jeff Galloway? Wondering if I should be following something like this...0

I printed out the Jeff Galloway, but I had decided to just do the "run until you can't" way until I got the C25K app. I finally got it downloaded last night, so I'm going to start using it this week. Still need to figure out the best route, cuz the hills kill me! The track I was going to use is blocked off by construction.0 -
Did you find you a better route? I've just been running in the undeveloped section of our subdivision and it sort of sucks... not the terrain, just that it's very short, so I have to keep making lots of circles. I really think I need to go to a local track at one of the parks around here... I'll probably be scouting out the nearest track this week when I get my shoes.0
-
I think I'm just going to go back to running at the top of Main Street. and circling around as many times as I have to. There's one section of the street that's pretty flat. The closest school with a track is my son's high school, 20 minutes away, and I don't want to waste time driving. Tonight I actually had the foresight to take my workout clothes with me to his school, so I could run after the assembly. That's not like me! There wasn't any lighting on the track, so I ran around the parking lot, which was huge and pretty well lit, and completely flat! Yay!!! So I'm kind of starting over since I just downloaded the C25K app, and this was day 1.
Warm-up 5:00
Run 1:00 x ? (too tired to do the math!)
Walk 1:30 x ?
Cooldown 5:00
Total 30:000 -
Thats great. I'm excited for you. I'm so glad beansy set up this challenge. It has really made getting back into running easier. Especially with all the support.0

Awesome run And great job on bringing your clothes in advance
I may download one of those apps to my iPhone. I think there's a free C25K one, I saw it a few months ago. Actually, I have it downloaded, come to think of it. Might open it up and see what it's all about.0 -

Thanks! I'm glad she did, too, because otherwise I probably wouldn't have started yet!0 -

Thanks! Mine was the free one. Zen Labs??? I don't have my ipod in the room with me to look.
Tonight I did W1D2, which was the same as Day 1.0 -
I didn't have my ipod charged enough, so I couldn't use the C25K app. My son let me use his ipod, so he turned the music on and set the timer for 30 minutes. I realized halfway up the street that leads to Main Street that I had forgotten to use my inhaler, but I thought if I didn't psych myself out maybe it wouldn't bother me. I ran for 3 minutes before I started having trouble breathing. Did more walking than running, but I'm ok with it under the circumstances.0

I had a day like that a few days ago. It was super hot. Just keep getting out their. It sets up a routine. Some days will be better than others. Proud of ya girl.0

It's been 3 weeks since I ran?! I forgot I did one day without my ipod, but I did W1D3 of C25K. For being so long between times I did this, I felt pretty good! Same 1 minute of running, 1.5 minutes of walking. My neighbor stopped me on my last minute of running to tell me she almost didn't recognize me. I thought she'd seen me more recently than this. NSV!
Oh, and thanks, Lori! I don't know how I missed your post.0 -
Ok, just so it doesn't look like I'm not doing anything, I did end up running/walking last night for 25 minutes. Actually ran a lot, because I was chasing my friend's daughter who was supposed to be walking their dog with me. She thought it would be more fun to run, and she runs much faster than me! I don't know how much was running, but I'd say a good bit.0

I really need to step it up here! I'm still trying to find a 5K I want to sign up for. I want to do something for the American Cancer Society, since I will be going out of town the weekend that I normally do Relay for Life, but they don't have anything scheduled for next year yet. This actually looks like something I'd want to strive for! http://www.herorush.com/hero-rush-videos/
Ok, so yesterday I did C25K W2D2, I guess I forgot to post when I did day 1. I was thinking maybe I should start over since I've been slacking, but I actually did fine! Day 1 was the first time I ran my entire neighborhood, steep hills and all. The steepest hill started really hurting my knees when I was running up it, and they hurts for days afterward, but yesterday it didn't hurt at all. I figured the only way to work my way up to running hills was to just do them.0 -
I forgot to post on Friday because I got sick after my run, but I didn't do C25K, I did Lindsay's "Run a Mile with/for Lache Day 2012!" and ran/walked 1.6 miles in 20 minutes.0

Look at you.0

There's a steep hill on my street that's about .3 mile, and I feel like such a dork running up it, because it seems like I could walk it faster. I hope I get better at this before it starts getting light out earlier!0
