Im Lisa, ive been overweight ALL my life. At 16 i was dx with pcos, and told i would probably never have kids. My only dream in life was to be a mom, but that was crushed.
At 19 I some how managed to get prego, only to miscarry at 5w6d along. I have tried on and off since then to get prego with no success.
7days after my 28th bday (nov 28 2012) i went under the knife to have gastric bypass. So far ive lost 41lbs.

Hoping and praying with everything ive got that I can one day (soon) having a little one of my own.

If you wanna know more just ask. im an open book.

  • Hi Lisa,
Congrats on your weight loss. I have kind of sorta considered a weight loss surgery. Has it been hard for you to adjust?

    Hi Lisa,
Congrats on your weight loss. I have kind of sorta considered a weight loss surgery. Has it been hard for you to adjust?

Surgery was Easy. My stomach wasnt painful, only my back. i had laproscopic RNY. i have 5, 1inch cuts.

the eating was Extreamly hard to adjust to. I look at food and want to eat but cant as i can only eat 2oz. I cant have bread, at first i was thinking GREAT i would rather eat the insides of a sandwich, but i want to eat a normal sandwich with bread. I am suppose to be eating 800-1000 cals aday. today i had a hard time but manages 500, normally id get about 200-300.
i get nauseas easy, if i eat sometimes i get nauseas, if i dont eat i get Really nauseas, and wanna puke but theres nothing to puke.
i cant drink protein drinks as they all make me sick. so getting protein in is SUPER hard.
All i can say is to really think about it. it isnt Easy at all. this is one of the biggest fights of my life. not trying to scare you just make you really think.
if you have anymore questions ask
  • I truly appreciate your honesty, that is what I am looking for. Why did you chose Gastric Bypass over the other weight loss surgeries , if you dont mind me asking?

Nope ask away im an open book.
I choose Rny for a few reasons.
    1st- its the most practiced,
2nd- its been around for over 40years, though its been used for other things before they realized it was a weighloss tool. See over 30yrs ago my grandfather had it done but not for weight loss. He had ulcers in his stomach so that was the only way to fix him, to cut out that part of his stomach. He has had another stomach surgery since then for stomach cancer (not related). All the man eats is junk food and hes like 90lbs.
3rd- rny is the best surgery for those who have a hard time with portion control. i can easly eat 2 or 3 plates at a buffet so, a good choice there.
4th- better success rate over all.
5th- after a lot of thinking, researching, and soul searching i felt this was the best one for me.

when i was 18yrs old i was going for this surgery(so was my mom. mine was the 19, hers was the 20). i went through all the tests, and other requirements. it was about 9hrs before surgery, and i FREAKED. i just couldnt do it. i was so scared of dieing, or mom dieing. nerves got the better of me.
Now years later at 28 i look back and figured out a few things. first and most importaintly I was not ready, i wouldnt have been able to do it. i was way to immature, and didnt know just how big of a fight this would be. second i didnt trust my dr, something about him just didnt sit well with me.
This time around i was WAY more ready, but ive still been completely shocked by the fight. i loved be dr, his staff, and the hospital before surgery i completely trusted them. heck i put my life in their hand! this time i have a better support network. before i didnt have friends who had had it, or a support group (both online and in person) those things made all the diff. Actually if it wasnt for Dailystrength.org i dont know if i would have made it though surgery. i owe those ppl everything.

right after surgery i was given ice chips, the next morning on my breakfast tray was tea, carnation instant breakfast (sugar free), jello, apple juice, and beef broth. I was also allowed water.
the first 2wks after was liquids all that was on the tray and cream soups. i could have any protein drinks i wanted as long as it was whey (unjury included).
weeks 3-4 all the above and thin pureed foods.
week 5 all the above and i could start adding more to it like mashed potatoes, tuna. all soft foods
    week 6 normal diet.
Though on day 9 post op i started puree cause i needed food. my nut knows about it and what i ate shes ok with it.

    things you cant have...
you cant eat high cal foods, snacks, or beverages such as candy, cake, cookies, ice cream, chips, nuts, sweet tea, Pop, sugar juices. nothing with carbonation!!

    things you can have...
water, 100% fruit juice (no sugar added), veg juice, clear broth, coffee or tea decaf, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, sugar free frozen juice bars, sugar free crystal light or artifically sweetened drinks, nonfat milk, sugar free low-fat pudding and yogurt, low fat cream soups.

these were taken from the blue book diet my nut hands out.

Hi Lisa! I am in the same boat as you. I was diagnosed in 2006 at the age of 15 and I long to become a Mommy! I am currently pre-op to have WLS myself. (no date set yet) but I know that once I am in the 1 yr post-op mark, I want to TTC (:

I too was diagnosed with PCOS and have been TTC for years. I have went thru multiple fertility drugs and treatments without any success. I also will be having gastric bypass surgery, although right now I am still in the pre-op diet/exercise plan required by my insurance. Not only am I having RYN to become healthy but also to better my chances of conceiving. Good luck to you on your journey Lisa, and thank you for sharing your journey with us =)
  • Wow! The same reason I had surgery. Hopefully we will carry to full term with prayer. Wishing u baby dust!!!
