Why you want to join: Because I suffered a slipped disc 2 years ago and still can't run anymore so walking is one of my main forms of exercise. Any incentive to pile on the miles is a good one! I've also wanted to walk the App trail since reading A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, but as I live in the UK, this is probably the closest I'll ever get LOL
Edit: quick question, do we post our miles at the next weigh in?

Also, to Karla, never say never! I'm from North Caroina and I went to London and York for three weeks years ago. I fell absolutely in love with the country and keep dreaming of going back. If you ever make it to our east coast, I'll hike it with you!0

Starting weight: 155-160
Current weight: 139
Goal weight: 135, but under deliberation.
Why you want to join: I love hiking in nature when I get a chance. When I don't, about 1/3 of my calories burned are still from walking around my city. I've hiked small bits of the Appalachian Trail and would love to one day hike the entire Israel Trail (Israel's equivalent of the AT, except that the AT doesn't have completely vertical sections).
How are we measuring miles walked, and how often are we going to weigh in?0 -
On every Friday we will weigh in and post total miles walked for the week :-)
And the measurement can be on a set walking machine like a treadmill or elliptical, or with a pedometer for walking around town :-)0 -
GBN: I have family on the easy coast, but dad is in Cali and my mum died a few years back and he's on his own so all my returns to the US are to visit him. However, I will take you up on your offer one day, even if it's only to walk some of it lol0

Why you want to join: I am wanting to join because I need a goal to get me moving.
I have 4 kids ages 13, 9, 22 months and 6months and would like to be more active with them.
We don't have any mountains near my local but there is a nature center in my neighborhood that I would like to walk with the kids in the spring.
Also my husband and I enjoy camping and we would like to take the kids camping this summer. My husband and I went camping/hiking on Isle Royale when we were dating and I would like to be fit enough to take the kids somewhere like that this year.
Until it thaws though it will be me and the treadmill in the basement.
