Side Effects

I have in the past thought that I could sneak a burger and chips while taking Xenical and then suffered with awful side effects.

This time around I've decided not to take the tablets over Christmas while I was eating crisps/nuts etc. But while I am taking them consistently and staying on a low fat diet I am seeing no side effects at all. I thought the tablets would strip 1/3 fat from all food, regardless of the fat %. Therefore would see some some oil in poo (sorry for being blunt)

Not only am I seeing no side effects but no increased weight loss so I'm questioning the benefit of taking the tablets vs just sticking to a low fat diet. I did see weight loss previously when eating burger and chips, but did suffer the consequences !!

thanks
Suz.

I am also finding it very different this time around I didnt know if it was just im eating better or they have change some of the ingredients since the world wide shortage last year.... I only had 2 dyas of the tablets Xmas day and boxing day and starting back up again despite eating chocolate cream mince pies cake mince meat crisps cheese and crackers :O Yep I was bad... I did have some tummy rumbling going on so it must of been doing something but nothing as bad as it used to be. Or maybe im eating better then i think I am and still think im eating how i was..

I am also thinking of just stopping now because it cant be good to take tablets over a long time only because i tuck them for nearly a year in 2011 then had so many months while out of stock now back on them again... I think its fine for people who are obese and are on them for 1 year but i think im getting away with going back on them a little bit :/ but it must be fine as they let me.

So that is odd that you are having the same as me but you have been on them before as well maybe its different for people just starting out who eat more fat then they think they are?!?! Im not sure but its got me thinking...

That is strange that you have been thinking similar to me.

I'm definitely obese (although no one I know would agree but medically I am). I'm going to continue taking them for a while and see how I get on. If nothing else the fear of side effects may make me be good and not try to sneak the odd Fish n Chips etc.

I've looked into it and medically it does you no harm to have prolonged use. But wondering how much benefit I'm getting by eating healthily anyway, not seeing any increased weight loss. So why am I taking them ??

I think something has changed too.
When I took them a few years ago I was told to aim to eat nothing with more than 5% fat at each meal where as now it is something like no more than 30% of your daily calories from fat.

I am not noticing any side effects whatever I eat and neither am I noticing weight loss. In November I stuck to my plan, no slip ups etc and when I got weighed after 4 weeks had only lost 1kg.

If I don't loose 5kg this month I'll get taken off them anyway and I am just not convinced they are doing anything anyway. I already take several other long term meds so I wouldn't mind loosing one. Trouble is I take stuff that has weight gain as a side effect and was hoping orlistat would give me a little help :-(

I was reading up that the original prescription orlistat was for 120 mg. This OTC is for 60 mg. I found if I doubled up on it, it works like it originally did in the past.

Where did you read that Mizterry??? I know people double up on Alli to get the same strength as the prescribed Xenical that you get of the docs.... I wouldnt take 2 Xenical though

It was definitely 120mg previously. But I don't have my prescription at hand to check right now if my new tablets are different.
Admitedly I did have some higher in fat foods over the weekend and took more tablets than I had been prior to that and did notice some small side effects.
Although doubling up may be the best way to strip fat out if you're having a fatty meal. you would need to be prepared for side effects. And that your prescription may not last as long.

Mine are still 120 mg... I do think they might have changed some ingredient in them or maybe our bodies are getting used to the tablets :S but im definitely losing weight with them still so im happy.
You have to be careful with them because it can harm the lining of your stomach if you have to much especially with none or little food I would only have 1 tablet

do you lot take them with breakfast? someone told me they didnt before as there isnt much fat in milk and bran flakes so the tablets last way longer so ive not been taking them with breakfast when its not fatty for about 2 weeks im i lost 2 lb a week ?1? but i dont know because last time I just tuck them 3 times a day with including breakfast

My Dr suggested that I only take with lunch and dinner as breakfast can easily be a low fat meal and this would make presciption last longer.

Over this weekend I've taken two with my evening meal if I felt it was higher in fat that I had been having recently. Although I've been sticking to my calorie limit I wasn't making best choices. Lots of cake/choc type snacks. Anyway, yesterday and today i've noticed quite a bit of oil. Not unmanageable, but enough to confirm it's working.

I weigh in tomorrow so I'll see if it has made any difference to my 2lb loss last week.

Yeah I was skipping taking mine breakfast till someone said i should so I started it again but I might skip it again now after what you just said and I sometimes not everyday but sometimes have a later night unhealthy snack I could occasionally use it for that :)
