My Hedgehog tried to hibernate :(

I've got a little African pygmy hedgehog (picture on my ticker) and when I got up this morning I noticed her enclosure looked untouched like she hadn't rummaged around all night, very unusual for her. So I got her out of her bed and I honestly though she was dead. She was all tight in a little ball breathing really lightly and quite cold.
I put her in my bed with a heat mat and it took me over an hour and half to get her to uncurl herself, something that usually takes a second! Luckily she is alright now but I'm so happy i checked on her as hibernation is usually deadly for these hedgehogs.
Had to write a post because I am so relieved that she is alright! Now added a heat mat under her bed to keep her warm. My living room is warm 24/7 but obviously it just wasn't enough for my little hedgie.
I'll add a picture so you can all see what a sweetie she is x

Glad she's doing well. I had a hamster that hibernated and ended up dying because of it. I didn't catch her in time to save her. :frown:

But I'm glad your hedgie is better!
  • Aww thanks so much everyone, She is only 4 months old so she is the baby of the family! She was my xmas present from my partner. I had wanted one for ages and he said if I get her enclosure and everything sorted before hand then he would get me one.
I have no idea why the picture hasn't sorted itself, I resized it before posting it!

What a cutie. Are they prickly? Do they stay friendly into adulthood? Do they use a littler box?
