I'm new to running and I want to build my iTunes playlist with fun, motivating song to keep me going. What are you favorite songs/albums to run to?

I saw something like that on iTunes. Is it mostly instrumental dance track style songs?

I have trouble with this because I am a rythmic person and have to walk/run to the beat.

Couple good running songs that I found are...

Holding Out for a Hero- Bonnie Tyler
    DangerZone by Kenny Loggins
    Soneone That You're With- Nickelback

I'm always looking for more songs to run too. I've got tons to walk too.

I like running to techno, but I have some good classic rock in there as well. Ram Jam's "Black Betty" is a great tune to run to. Also some CCR.

I also like running to a beat, and most of the songs I have are tailored to exactly when I'll walk/run, so here's my playlist labeled: BATTLE BORN:

    Survive- Rise Against- warm-up
    Sam's Town- The Killers
    Bleed American- Jimmy eat World
    Dancing Through Sunday- AFI
    Kill Caustic- AFI
    Battle Born-The Killers
    Give it All- Rise Against
Till' I Collapse- Eminem- Powersong, I always finish strong with this song
All These Things That I've done- The Killers- cooldown

I'm the same way. I'm a music teacher, so I almost can't make myself run on the wrong beat or fast/slower tempo, etc.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

I have been trying to build an actual running playlist also with songs either about running or having "run" in the title. I'm probably showing my age but here are a few that I've come up with...

I Ran - Flock of Seagulls
Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush
    Run Runaway - Slade
Runnin' with the Devil - Van Halen

and one of my all time favorites that just totally pumps me up is Lose Yourself by Eminem.

I'm a bit of a tech geek, so I use the Windows program AUDACITY to weave the audio only version of CT5K seamlessly with my music tracks; basically where the narrator prompts you to start running, I kick up the music to really jam me up for the next set. Here is my playlist for Week 1:

All of the Lights- Kanye West
    Mr. Saxobeat- Alexandra Stan
    Moves Like Jagger- Maroon 5
World Go Boom 2011 (Mashup)-DJ Earworm*
    1901- Phoenix
Call it What You Want- Foster the People
Immigrant Song- Trent Reznor & Karen O

This playlist is in the range of 140-160 BPM, so certainly works for those wanting to push the cardio. If you like Pop, check out DJ Earworm's page for free mashups of some of the best songs of the year all put together and free to download: http://djearworm.com/

    Happy Running, everybody!

Some Christian artists I listen to on my runs are TobyMac and Peter Furler. I like current mainstream pop (I also do hip-hop dance), but don't have albums loaded. The Peter Furler one is older, but he sings lots of things with "running" and "finishing" words in it, so it makes me smile when I'm on the running parts.

The iPod is at home and I am at work. Let's see what I can think of off the top of my head.

    Mama Kin - Aerosmith
    Mony Mony - Billy Idol
I want It All - Queen
Hot & Cold - Katy Perry
    Break Stuff - Limp Bizkit
Down With the Sickness - System of a Down
    Helter Skelter - The Beatles
    Back in Black - AC/DC
    Scream & Shout - Wil I Am
Back on Track - an 80's one hit wonder I cannot think of right now.
    Too Turned On - Alisha
Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5
    Detroit Rock City - KISS

Big fan of 70's classic rock and 80's bubble gum pop. They have a great beat for my running pace. I know al the words and they keep my mind off thinking about can I finish this today?

Great ideas! I'm adding song to my list thanks to you guys. My "Jogging" playlist is huge, but finding good up-tempo stuff is harder. That's probably because I like a lot of folksy, singer/songwriter music.

That's what I found going through my iPod to make my running mix. 35 gigs of music and finding songs with a rocking upbeat rhythm was difficult.
