Introducing myself

Hi all,

I'm new to MyFitnessPal, and am just in the process of returning to OA after 20 years out of the program. I would love to connect as MFP "Friends" with other OA members here, especially those in their 40s - 50s. I don't get a chance to read messages on this board too often, as I use MFP on my iPad and the "community" features don't seem to be available there (too bad!). However I'd love to connect with a couple of OAers with whom I could exchange tips and moral support through the "Friends" features (comments, messaging, etc.).

Best wishes to all on your recovery journeys,

Deborah

Welcome. Like you, I am a former OA member; out of program for 7 years or so. I've gained and lost the same 30 pounds about 4 times. MFP really helped me stay focused the last time, especially with my journaling. When I started to wain, I stopped logging, and down that slippery slope I went. I'm back to lose the 15 lbs. or so I packed on since June. I need support from people who understand this disease, can offer encouragement, and accept my successes and failures.

Hello to both of you. This is a pretty neat group. Not always the most active, but good people and a whole lot of acceptance. Happy to have you here!

Hi from me too. I have been in OA since November 2011 when I joined my local meeting. I use MFP on a daily basis as part of my plan of eating and it has helped me to understand what a 'moderate' portion is much much better. Left to my own devices my portion sizes would be at least twice what they are now, but they I am not hungry and I am well on the way to a healthy body weight with my HP's grace. I am in my 50's and more than happy to have OA friends. "Together we can do what we cannot do alone"

    Hi, and welcome!
I'm an OAer who got a tremendous amount of Big Book recovery in the early to mid 1990s, pulled away from the program after the death of my father, and have been inching back in recent months.
MFP is really a great tool, and something that is helping me a lot, as I've not been able to find an OA meeting I can attend near where I now live.
I think you'll enjoy the OAers here - I do!
please feel free to friend me.
  • Hello Everyone,
My name is Melissa. I just joined OA and have been attending online meetings through The Recovery Group. I would like to use myfitnesspal as part of my plan of eating for logging and journaling. I would like to eliminate my trigger foods. Portion control is a big issue for me even when I am eating healthy, good for me foods.
Feel free to friend me too!

Hello everyone. I am a former OA member who does not feel comfortable going back to face to face meetings just yet. Even though we are assured non-judgement, acceptance and love at the meetings, I do not feel that it is the case in reality. Most of that feeling is most likely my own judgement of myself rather than what I truly get from other members. :)

I am here to keep track of my food and maybe my exercise. Food portions mostly. And I am here for the group support I know I can get from an online community. I have let go of the whole idea of abstinence (the refrain from compulsive overeating and/or sticking to a food plan) because that sets me up for failure. So, I am using MFP mainly to keep track of what I eat and to try and stay within the confines of a specific calorie count.

Welcome! I hope you both find the acceptance, non-judgment and support you're looking for. I believe that no one should define for you what tools you need, so you have my support in continuing to do what's working for you. Awesome! I also struggle with portion control, and simply with not eating in response to stress vs. actual hunger. Most days I do well... and then there are others:) Take care!!!
  • Hi Deborah
just signed up to this app last week and great to be so much more aware of my incidential eating - and honestly presenting it. Also go to OA meetings in my city for the past 7 years but despite really growing within the program, will regularly trick myself into thinking that I'm not really an overeater - sound familiar?
Nice to find this group on MyFitnessPal
