Mixing Fun and Weight Loss

Hey guys,
Wondering what everyone does to keep having fun while they're losing weight. It's been mentioned in a few posts that its pretty hard to keep motivated when your skinny friends want to drink 3 nights a week and go for pizza or poutine, etc after. It's pretty hard to say no to all that deliciousness once you've had a few drinks! I would love to hear some suggestions on balancing the college social life and counting calories. Ie what do you guys drink if you go out? what do you eat before? What motivates you to say no to all of the extras when you're out? I realize a lot of this is common sense - just don't drink, just don't eat crap, but that's easier said than done, especially in social situations! Let me know and feel free to add me

I have a hard time with it too, I just try to limit myself to one outing a week as far as drinking. If i do go out more then i offer to be the dd or something. Theres nothing wrong with a crap day here and there though, youll go crazy and end up on a crazy binge if you dont! haha As far as drinks go, I see it as if youre going out drinking might as well drink what you want. Theres always the lighter beverages. Pizza, try thin crust it isnt as terrible as the regular. Good Luck ill send an add your way :]0

This is definitely a struggle for me, too! A lot of the campus activities involve free food, which is perfect for us poor grad students, but the food is usually not super healthy
In terms of social life though, I usually *try* to work out extra hard if I know I'm going out that night and drink plenty of water & tea plus gentle yoga the next day twisting poses detox & feel wonderful after a night out!0 -
I have the same struggle! I agree with an earlier post that I try and now limit myself to only going out one night a week, which is about all I can handle as a grad student. Before I make sure to eat a regular sized meal, and then throughout the night drink water between drinks. It causes you to feel fuller and of course not get as drunk to want to eat pizza at 2 in the morning, but of course if you do sometimes its not the worst thing in the world. Also, I drink vodka and sodas with extra lime to give it some of the flavor it loses with being so plain. Hope this helps!0

I quit my beloved beer and wine and primarily drink spirits with diet sodas (or shots and then water to sip on). My friends definitely love ordering pizza or buying tons of chips, so I've just started bringing snacks with me appropriate to my diet (and sharing, of course!). Unlike most people on MFP, I do low carb, not low calorie, so I usually bring pepperoni sticks, pork rinds, or dark chocolate and those'll soothe *any* craving I may have while making me full. Hope this helps!0

Hey!
While I'm currently on a break, when I was in college, I hardly drank. Only the first one out of courtesy, but most of the time I don't! It is a choice I choose to make, because I don't like to be out of control of myself, and also I have a mild alcohol allergy where I'd bloat and get itchy hives the next day if I drank a lot! I also don't like drinking calories, they don't fill me and I fell like they are a waste of calories! And by not getting drunk I am in control of what I eat too I still join them occasionally but I just don't drink (much). And at times if I know they are just gonna drink then I just don't join them! There are other people who don't really enjoy drinking and I spend time with them doing other fun stuff! I don't feel like I'm missing out (most of the time) because I like knowing that I am in control haha.
If you enjoy drinking, then definitely choose the lower calorie-d options! Also think of how much it would cost you if you drink a lot! Limit yourself by thinking of the cost and calories! Drink lots of water in between!! So that you don't get drunk easily and obviously keeps you full
It depends on how badly you want it/whether you want to have those drinks and get high or focus more on your weight loss. There are no wrong choices! Your friends will respect your choices of how much/what you drink etc. If they don't then they're not worthy friends. If they force it on you and you still wanna stay friends with them, then you could try saying you have an alcohol allergy? When they know it is life threatening they wouldn't risk it! I guess I have my allergy to thank for not drinking haha
If you wanna go crazy with the drinks, then make sure you make some allowance for it! Have a killer workout beforehand, eat lesser in the day, go crazy dancing after your drinks, socialise and talk more instead of snacking more! You burn calories laughing so laugh ahead! If you really wanna up the anti, some stuff I do is hold in my tummy while seated, raise your legs a little to work you quads, offer to pour drinks and get some movement, make frequent toilet trips.. Take walks outside to have a breather etc...0
