No Gallbladder

Is there anyone who no longer has a gallbladder and who is type 2? What food constraints have you noticed or frustrations?

Today I was told no lactose at all; i.e. milk, cheese anything with milk in it, no cauliflower, no beans, no cabbage, no broccoli......

I feel like I'm moving backwards, even though my fasting was an 87 this morning......I hope this doesn't cause a big shake up for me.

I told the "gas doc specialist" that it sounded as though he was telling me to eat primal or paelo?

I have got to get a referral to a nutrionist.

I have no gall bladder. I just have to watch foods high in fat and if I have salad I try my best to eat it at home!!

I haven't had a gallbladder for about 8yrs now. I say add in those foods slowly. I think he told you that because they do cause extra gas. Now those foods don't bother me but you give me spicey foods and i'm in trouble! LOL just take it a little at at ime. I don't think having no gallbladder has effected my blood sugar levels. :) Good luck and God bless

I do not have a gallbladder and my only issues are with rich foods which run right through me.

No one told me anything about diet when I had my gall bladder removed a few years ago. It mystified me at the time because I didn't understand how I could simply go without a body organ and make no changes at all. But, I did. I felt loads better without it and continued on my merry way.

Now, I'm not so sure. When you all get symptoms from eating without a gall bladder, what are they?

I have problems with salads... especially if I eat one a day for several days. I don't know how it is "suppose" to affect diabetes and have wondered myself. I will continue to read others' comments to see if I can learn from your question.

No matter what they tell you to eat or not eat, its all a guess. You will find some foods that "run thru you" that no one warned you about and will have some foods you can tolerate with no problems.
    We are all so different.

I've had exccessive gas and sharp pains sometimes.

I'm scheduled for ab sono to get a good viewing of stomach, liver, bile doc (which is left over after gall bladder surgery) and pancreas.

New GI doc is saying after gallbladder surgery and removal of all gas causing foods.

GI says it is possible for stones to form in the bile duc.

So what sometimes bothers me.......nuts, "too much dairy" all white pastas (good thing I gave them up long ago)

I had my gallbladder removed in 2009 after suffering attacks for quite some time.

I have trouble with fatty foods, so I don't eat them. I also have trouble if I eat too many raw leafy greens at a sitting, which just kills me. I love spinach. I also don't do too well with too many legumes.

I eat lower fat dairy, lots of steamed veggies, lean protein, and lots of whole grains. I tend to avoid high fat foods, legumes, and beans, and eating raw leafy greens too often.

I had my gallbladder removed several years ago. A year after having it removed I went to the ER in severe pain. I was admitted with pancreatitis. I had a large stone in the common duct. You can develop stones even after the gallbladder is removed. They fixed it so that if I do develop more stones they will not get stuck again.

Having my gallbladder removed hasn't caused me any trouble with any foods. All those "gas forming" foods don't bother me at all or cause me excessive gas as long as I keep my carb intake low. If I eat sugar or other high carb foods I get gas.

Everyone is a bit different. Try different foods to see what bothers you.

I get sharp pains after I eat peanuts and almonds, which is really awful because I love nuts, I'm allergic to every other nut and they are such a great source of good fats and protein. So I sort of tolerate the sharp pains. Those are the only foods that I noted a changed reaction with.

I'm more concerned with what happens when my stomach is empty or nearly empty. When I haven't eaten in a while (rising) I get a gripping sensation right under by ribs - It's in the same place that I had all the symptoms that led to the removal of my gall bladder. I suppose that's why I'm a little concerned. It's no where near the level of the 'omg, get the glass shards out of my stomach' pain that led to the removal of my gall bladder though.

I have a doctor's appointment in a couple of weeks. I might mention it then.

Yep....that's when I feel the sharp pain....upon rising....... on the right side........

Of course I'm hoping it is just the gas from the metformin to blame...

But sometimes when I eat almonds I get it to...and like you I still want almonds....just have cut back a lot on the things that are causing the pain.....

Laura....I'm going to try to find a nutritionist who will help me figure out how to do my meals....everyone (docs) keep saying I need one but no one has provided me with a referral....I'm not letting that stop me (seems like since diagnosis I've had to really dig for a lot of info and thank goodness for this group cause it has made my life easier) I'm off to my insurance site to see if I can get locate one local.

 Hi. I have not had a gallbladder for several years, or a thyroid, and am type 2 diabetic. My doctor has only said to watch the carbs and fruit to try and keep my sugar levels consistant. I think as for your gall bladder, we all react differently to fats ( milk etc). If I were you I would eat healthy and keep a food diary, as you are, and slowly introduce one thing at a time and see how well your body tolerates it. There is nothing really "forbidden", it is more what you tolerate. But, I am not a doctor, so if there are other reasons he is saying this, or you have questions, I would suggest a second opinion. Happy eating!!

Does it also feel tender when you touch your right side in the morning? ¿iz curious¿ Does Metformin do that?

Heh. Yeah, the almonds are especially worth it. It's one of the few crunchies that I can still eat without triggering a massive craving for other salty snacks like chips. I can also eat a small cup of them and be satisfied - Especially if I mix them with FF/SF pudding or yogurt and get that crunchy smoothie feel with them that I miss so much. I used to love putting almonds in all kinds of creamy deserts.

Peanuts in the shell are good for a controlled crunch. It takes time to get the shell off and a huge basket of them really equals a very small portion of actual nuts. Ah, the way we trick ourselves. It's so much fun. ;)

Count me in with the no gallbladder group. Mine was removed in 2006. Pretty sure it was due to the birth control patch or Yaz.

I found the main complication is I need to avoid fatty or greasy foods, which is fine since I gave those up a while ago. However I still can't get used to most foods going right through me. It seems like almost anything sets me off sometimes.
