2 Seam Dream Foundation 4K walk and 5K run - Jan 26th!

I totally spazzed and thought I had posted this arleady here but I guess I had not. I'm doing my first 5K this weekend and this is the one I'm running! It's sponsored and run by some former LSU Baseball Players. Check their website out at :

They also have a facebook group page as well.

They are also having a softball game by some MLB players and a Home Run Derby! Should be a lot of fun!

Also note that according to their fb page, they've moved the entire thing up by an hour so the 5K is starting at 8:00 am instead of 9.
  • Good luck and have fun! I'm still recovering from last weekends run or I'd join you!

Oooh that's right! Did you do the full marathon or half? How was it? Were you very sore after?
  • I did the full, my first! I did a run/walk and finished in 5:29. It was awesome. I am very sore, but honestly not as sore as after my first half last year. I guess the more you do it the more your body can handle :D

WOW that's awesome! You are my running hero! :D

Do you have any more big runs planned this year?
  • LOL - I'm still a begineer. I like to surround myself with real runners and pretend I am one of them!

I'm doing the Rouge-Orleans next month. It's a 126.2 miles from BR to NO. I am doing it as part of a 6 person team. 24 hour race. Should be very interesting. Also there is a group going to the Runner's World Half festival in October. We are all doing what they call a Hat Trick. It is a 5k and a 10k on saturday followed by a half on Sunday.

Other than that just a ton of local runs. I really enjoy the trail runs and hope to get in more of those.

I'm so excited for you and your first 5k this weekend! I cried after I ran my first complete one!

Oh wow that Rouge-Orleans one sounds really neat! The Hat Trick sounds exhausting!

Yea, I have a feeling that I will be emotional. Chris, my mom and aunt are going to cheer me on. Which that may make me more nervous. I'm sure my nerves are going to start working in on me today.
  • You will do great! make sure to hydrate today. And don't go out to fast just because others are. Run your own pace. That always trips me up.
  • What's the route? I looked on line but didn't see it.

Thanks! Sorry I didn't see this until just now. We didn't find out the route until we got there. We started from the New Alex Box Stadium then turned right at the river, then went into the gravel parking area (ironically the same place we park for football games), made a "L" shaped loop in there then back out to River Road, turned right onto Skip Bertman Drive and made a loop in another parking lot, then back out to pass in front of Old Alex Box. Then Right on Nicholson then back to Gourrier and the New Box.

(Also there is more details on my blog if you want to check it out.... http://skinnygeekwithin.blogspot.com/ )

I made sure and drank at least 80oz of water and legs and feet felt good during - I had new shoes on as well and they did great!

All that being said, girl... I came in DEAD LAST. My biggest fear. I knew very early on that there was no way I could beat anyone else so I just kinda accepted it and rolled with it. Plus there was only about 20 other runners. All seemingly experienced to my newbie. But I have to say that everyone was very, very kind and gracious and encouraging! Some other runners not in our 5K passed me going opposite on Gourrier and they yelled, "Keep up the good work! You are doing awesome!". I admit I teared up a bit.

  • Glad you had a great time! Finishing last is way better than not finishing at all!! I came in last for a night trail run in November. I was supposed to do two 7 mile loops, but after the first (running alone in the woods in the dark) I decided not to go back out. I was lapped by 3 people on their 2nd loop. But it was still a great time!

I love the way runners are so encouraging to other runners. :D
