Too much protein?

I go over my recommended protein intake every single day- sometimes I double it! Can this be harmful? Most of it is coming from greek yogurt, which I love.

What do you set your macros at or are you using the default MFP settings? If that's the case, it's probably normal you're going over. My macros are set for 30-30-40 for protein, fats, and carbs respectively.0

Haha- I don't even know what that means! I am using the default I'm sure. But even looking online 70-80 grams seems to be the recommended amount (although I've seen some articles that say women only need HALF that!) and I hit at least 100 every day. I just want to make sure I'm not destroying my kidneys.0

I eat way more than that. I average close to 1 gram per lb of body weight on weightlifting days, so I wouldn't worry about it. I'm guessing you'll be fine. And read up on macros, it's a whole new world out there for nutrition0

I don't think there's anything wrong with that amount of protein, it doesn't seem excessive at all!0

You're totally fine - you'll just pee out whatever you can't process.
I also love greek yogurt and pre-pregnancy would take in 140-160gms of protein a day. I think it's awesome you're still getting 100 during pregnancy - way to go!0 -

This is awesome!!! I strive for 70grams a day, I'm also a vegetarian and find it difficult at times to hit this mark.
Would love to know your sources of protein! (and greek yogurt is sooo delish!)0 -

No. That much protein should not harm you unless you already have kidney issues. Without knowing you LBM (Lean Body Mass) or who much of your body weight is comprised of muscle tissue, it's a little hard to know exactly how much you really need but a safe bet is .75 grams per lb. of LBM. In order to know your LBM, you will need to know your BMI (Body Mass Index- or Body Fat %). Convert that to pounds, subtract that amount from your total body weight and then you will have your Lean Body Mass.
Lean protein has a metabolic effect- It actually requires your metabolism to rise ever so slightly during the digestion process for about 2 hours after you've eaten it due to it's complexity and amino acid break down. So it's a much better choice to eat more of than carbohydrates, but always remember no matter what you eat too much of, if you'r body does not require the extra calories for the tasks you are doing, it will store the extra calories as FAT.
So, just be careful that your protein is lean!
Hope that helps0 -
Going over on protein is a good thing. MFP's protein recommendations are too low IMHO.
Sounds like you're doing great!0
