My dog has completely gone crazy......

I have a five month old dog (I'm not going to say what kind because I'm sick of defending her breed) she is a good puppy, loves everyone she meets, big time cuddler, just an all around happy puppy. In the last few weeks she has become super duper attached to me (I'm 26 weeks pregnant) she won't leave my side for anything. Even follows me to the bathroom, and if she loses sight of me she runs through the house like a wild animal until she finds me. She's always sleeping either on me or at my feet. And each morning when she sees that I'm up (she sleeps in her own doggie bed in our room) she crawls her way up into bed and lays down with me. I've never seen a dog act this attached to someone in my life. Has anyone else had their dogs get attached while they were pregnant? Do they continue it after the baby is born? I love her to pieces and she's "my furry child that walks on all fours" but Jeeze some privacy in the bathroom would be nice lol.

No need to defend any breed! (I'm guessing I know what she is, in which case I've never met a mean one!) My dogs are all pretty attached, and last time I was pregnant, one of mine was up my butt all the time. He chilled out after I gave birth. He has stayed close ever since (it's been two years) but hasn't been glued to me like he was that first time. Now I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is super attached to me (he was just in the bathroom with me ten minutes ago), but that's the breed temperament, and he's no more attached than before I was pregnant. Not sure how he's going to handle not being able to be in my lap every time I hit the couch...

Anyway, she'll probably relax some but will still probably stick close to you and your baby, just in case, though probably less so than now. My dogs are generally protective and will be standoffish with strangers but never do anything mean. They just need an indication from me that all is ok before they relax, so your sweet girl may do that for a while. You may find that she becomes more protective of the baby than of you, like she will sleep by the crib or outside the nursery instead of being underfoot :)

I hope she calms down lol. She sticks her head in the shower on and off to make sure I'm still in there lol

LOL. Yeah, one of my dogs turned clingy within the first month and even more so now than before follows me around and has to be near me all the time. 95% of the time she prefers me to be the one to play with her (drives me nuts) and always wants to be in my lap when I'm sitting down. Hopefully she'll cool it when the baby comes otherwise she's going to find it hard when she cant' be in my lap all the time lol. The other one has gotten more playful during play time, but still acts like a cat in that she does her own thing and doesn't like to be bothered hehe. I think this is universal for dogs, especially with the female dogs; they just know.

It's funny you bring this up, I'm home on a visit and our Beaglier who is usually very aloof (cat like), is always touching me or near me. My mom said maybe she knows your pregnant! Maybe.......

I have to give an update LOL: my husband decided to try to give me a break from the dog, so he took her out for a run...... 10 min later they came back HAHAHA he said she was pulling to go back home the whole time and worked as resistance until she realized what he was doing then just laid down on the ground until he turned around

All of my dogs are male, but they still get clingy. They tend to be smart but "needy" breeds, though (one's a (rescued) purebred, the others are all mixes), so that may have something to do with it.

My mom had a male dog when I got pregnant with my first. This dog did NOT like women AT ALL. It was a rescue dog and we all assumed that he suffered some abuse by a woman. When I got pregnant, that all changed. He wouldn't even let his daddy - who was his best friend - come anywhere near me. I had my own personal guard dog anytime they were around. He still is extra nice to me to this day.

I have 2 dogs now. They are both extra clingy and the one is always underfoot. Of course, the one that is always underfoot now is also the biggest protector of my 2 sons already. I expect that there won't be any issues once I bring the baby home either.
