Doing runs before a 5k?

So I found a link to a running site that helps you find local runs to join. I already have planned to run 5k in April when I should be about done with the program. However, I am seriously thinking about trying a 1M fun run in the next 2-3 weeks to see how well that works out. Then I can save the big 5K for when I complete the program. Has anyone tried doing that? Or would it be best to wait it out? I completed W1D1 tonight and although I am sore, I feel pretty darned good and I want to do whatever I can to motivate as I increase that run time.

No reason you can't go out and do that run. After all, it's a fun run so go out and have fun! One mile should not be a problem.0

Awesome! It's one of those things that I don't want to overdo it or do it too soon, ya know? I will get my butt signed up for one and do it!0

I'd just turn on my C25K program and do the run as part of your normal workout. Walk the five minutes before the race starts.0
