Just wondering how many calories and fellow hypo folks are consuming daily? I am 33, 5'9", pretty active and 180lbs.
I used to be able to lose weight no problem through eating well and exercise. The last 2 years, I have barely lost anything and have become a very active, competitive tennis player, however, I do not lose weight. Just wondering what everyone else's diaries are like and if you have any success stories or tips?

    Im up at 1450 /Day. Eating my exercise calories and still hard to lose due to hypo & hashimotos. Iv was advised to add coconut oil to my daily food intake. on day 2...

    I have Hashimotos too. I wish I knew the answer. With as hard as I've worked and as well as I've eaten I would be happy to see any movement on the scale. I went and had a body composition analysis done today. Partly so that I can answer the question that if I eat right and exercise and tone and build muscle, will that change my body composition even if I can't lose any weight? I lost weight when I first went on meds (weight I didn't need to lose) and now I've gained 25% of my body weight in a year. It's just bizarre. I know they say if you vitamin D levels are low it can keep you from losing (I'm on supplements), and same for high amounts of cortisol or estrogen dominance. I'm going to get those levels checked next month just to be sure it isn't one of those.

    What meds are you on? If you're on a T4-only med like Synthroid or Levothyroxine, I'd try to find a doctor who will prescribe Nature Thyroid or Armour. These meds have both T3 and T4, and T3 is critical for being "not hypo". Many people on T4-only meds can have a "good" TSH and even a "normal" free T4, but their free T3 is in the tank so they feel like crap.

    Does your doctor test free T3 and free T4?

    Vit D: the reason you need good levels of Vit D is because it's critical for the T3 to do its job. Without enough Vit D, the T3 can't act on your cells, and you can still feel hypo. Optimal levels are 60-80, not just the 30+. My last levels were at 40 and I take 4000 IUs daily to get that up! How much Vit D are you taking? Is it D3?

    Anything you can do to get your Hashi's antibodies under control will also help level off your thyroid, because those antibodies are waging a continuous attack on your thyroid. Anything that calms your immune system down will help - accupuncture, yoga, exercise, massage, etc. Many people also benefit from a gluten-free diet.

    I take synthroid and cytomel. My cytomel was just upped a few weeks ago because my T3 levels were tanking. I had to BEG my endo to start testing for and treating T3, and usually have to send back the script for blood work for them to add it.
    I'm on 50,000 IU once a week of D3 for six months. My GP did my annual blood work and I was at 25.

    I also started a gluten free diet a couple of months ago. It has really changed the way I feel, the level of body aches and pain, and even my skin isn't as irritated. It's been a wonderful find!

    My antibodies are always at >1000. I didn't know any of those things helped to calm the immune system. I did acupuncture once and really enjoyed it, just never went back. I may have to do that! Thanks for all the info!!

    I'm on Eltroxin 100...I started at 50 and she doubled my dose shortly after. I was diagnosed in July of 2011. I dont know if its related or not, but I am sick ALL the time. I literally get sick twice a month, and not just little coughs, i mean full blown, have to call in sick to work sick.

    As for the weight loss, I dont know what else to do. I have been the exact same weight since September. Since then, I have been eating semi-sensibly, playing tennis, and the last month, I added more exercise, weights, and eating much better. I have been drinking lots of water, taking vitamins, counting everything I eat, and the scale will not change. It is not possible for weight to not be coming off, as there is a deficit every single day. I may call my doctor for an appointment, because this is crazy. I am so close to giving up.

    Do I blame this on Hashimotos/hypo? I have been very healthy and active, there has to be a reason....

    It sucks that you had to beg, BUT it's good that you were able to get it!

    Wow, that's a crazy low Vit D level. It will probably take a few months just to get it up to a decent range, but again it's great that your GP is taking it seriously and treating you.

    Hopefully the gluten-free helps bring down your antibody levels!

    You're on a T4-only med. Has the doctor ever tested your free T3? How are you feeling - any symptoms of hypo still?

    Is your body composition changing at all? I went and had a body composition analysis done (at Walgreens- only $15!) and started measuring myself. I am curious to see if all of the exercise reduces my body fat percentage and increases my skeletal muscle percentage even if the scale doesn't budge. It is extremely frustrating to work this hard and not see results...but I can say my body FEELS much better and I have more energy and fewer aches and pains when I am exercising every day.

    I was diagnosed just before the holidays as hypo and have found the cutting my carbs WAY back (and limiting to good carbs like fruits and veggies rather than anything processed), makes me feel good and is the only thing that will help move the scale for me. My doctor is still trying to find my proper dosage of levothyroxine, but I'll be seeing a specialist in March since I have some fertility concerns as a newlywed.

    I'm trying to keep my carbs around 30-40 grams a day to get on track and then will gradually add to find what works best for my body individually.

    When I went gluten free was when I found the most changes in how I felt. It was life changing! Now if I can figure out the weight part, I'll be happy!

    Yep, I got back to my Paleo diet on January 1 and lost that god-awful stubborn 6 lbs that would not go away. Kept my carbs about where you did to finally see some action, and now trying to keep them around 50g a day for maintenance. My diary is public if anyone wants to see what I eat. Works for me :)

    *Note: I am VERY sedentary. I'm trying to motivate myself to exercise, but not there yet.

    I had a hemithyroidectomy in April 2010. My doctor recomends that I eat 1800 calories a day, I don't not eat back exercise calories because it balances out with the days I don't excercise to keep me about 1200 net. He also recommends that I drink a gallon of ice water a day. I just had my meds (Synthroid) upped because my TSH was 3.49 and I have gained back a lot of my lost weight. I had to remind him that the NIH recommends that TSH levels be between .5 -2.0 for people being treated for a thyroid condition. I don't have problems with myT3 or T4 levels. As long as I keep my TSH close to or below 2.0 I am able to lose weight.
