Just curious if anyone has bought Coconut oil from Bulk Apothacary. One of the guys in my office recommended it, but I'm not sure of the quality, etc. Any thoughts?

I personally wouldn't eat this particular one. I make soap and body products (lotions and whatnot), and this would be the type of coconut oil I would use for that. Especially since no where in the description that I could see, did it say food grade. I'd stick with organic oils... Maybe check Tropical Traditions since I think they sell in larger quantities than what you might find in a store

Duh... It says food grade right in the title haha. I still wouldn't use this to eat as it's going to be much lower quality than the coconut oil processed wih the intent to consume.

Maybe 3rd edit is the charm! OK... I'm looking at the gold label. Thanks! I hope that's the right one. :blushing:

Food grade coconut oil 76 is refined coconut oil. It will work just fine for cooking, and is actually great for deep frying, but it's not going to have the smell or taste that organic extra virgin coconut oil has. Similar to the difference between organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil and the cheapest lightest olive oil you can find. Both are edible, but just not the same taste and quality.

Most oils used in cosmetics and body care products are food grade. I've been a soap maker for years and used to sell. My main suppliers were food wholesalers.

ETA: If you decide to purchase, that is actually a pretty good price. One of the best priced suppliers that I use as a reference is www.soaperschoice.com. It's a wholesale food oil supplier that has almost any type of oil you could want. All of the oils are food grade and you don't have to have a business to buy from their soaper website.

They had a chart at Tropical Traditions that I found really helpful. You can find it here:

I chose to go with the gold label - it had yes in every column, so it seemed to be the best option (it didn't hurt that they had 2 for 1 sale going on right now, though  ).
