very new

So I am not a runner at all and have bad cardio....where do I start? Anyone live in Ma. near Ct. border or should I say any running groups for the beginners. I need the push from someone to get me going.

Do you have the Couch to 5K app for your iPod or phone? That's where I started just a few weeks ago.

If you are comfortable walking your neighborhood for 10 minutes, that will give you the guidance that you need. If you are severely obese or have other issues, you can still do the program with modifications.

I have always walked and worked out which isn't a problem there. It's my cardio that is not the greatest. Running was always hard for me. Wasn't sure if I ever could adjust to running or not instead of walking all the time.

If you're already walking and working out then I bet you can do it, it's not nearly as hard as it seems! I had not been working out, and had always been able to walk..but very rarely ever did it! I got on the treadmill on Jan 1st thinking I was going to just do 30 seconds at the time..I thought I couldn't possibly do the full week 1 day 1, but I got on the treadmill and tried and I was able to do week 1 day 1 in its entirity..I was shocked! I'm now on Week 4 Day 2, and the ability to run really does come to you. It's not easy, each increase has been a struggle, but I've been able to keep up and make the increases week by week. And I really think that if I can do it, anyone can because I am incredibly out of shape and have never ever in my life been able to run at all!

I can do about 10-15 min. of cardio before I'm gasping for air. Guess I just need to push through it.

That's enough to get started on C25K. The first few weeks will help build up your stamina even more.
You can do this if you really want to. We're all here to support you through the program and beyond. It's a great program that really works.

Hi, I'm a 58 yr old grandma, and I have done 2 5k's, I've never heard of a fake runner, you have it in you, bring it out slow, the c25k app is free on Iphone, the best thing ever, you can do it, the hardest thing is signing up for you first race, once you start you have already won...you just did your first 5k and you will be hooked like the rest of us...:smile: :flowerforyou:

I just completed week 1 and looking forward to week 2... I'm on my journey towards regaining my health, have never been a runner and was able to do this. It's very empowering and fun! I feel unstoppable.

A couple ideas for finding folks to run with closer to home: check with your local park districts --- they often have running clubs; or check with your local running stores or health clubs or just start asking friends... I mentioned to someone last week that I was starting the c25k program last week and they gave me the name of 2 local running clubs. Many clubs are very friendly and helpful to the beginner runner... I would definitely recommend checking them out.

Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like long-distance support!

    ...scatter joy...
