Downloaded Path of Exile last night (free to play) and am pretty impressed by it so far. I rolled a Shadow. Has anyone else tried it yet?

There is no subscription fee and is free to download and play. They make money by micro-transactions for item effects and pets, so it is definitely not pay to win.
There are 1,350 passive skills. Expect to spit out your drink when you open that skill tree the first time. You start the game out with 3 health and two mana flasks which are binded to your 1-5 keys. The flasks have a certain amount of charges and automatically refill over time in combat for free.
You acquire skill Gems from quests and drops and was very confusing to me at first. You insert a skill gem into a item socket which then grants you a skill, Using the skill then levels the gem. If your item has two sockets and is linked you may add a support gem into the remaining slot which then add things like critical damage, additional projectiles, ect.
The first 10 levels I would say felt like I picked the wrong character (shadow), but once I got a few gems and attack speed the game opened up and had a hard time walking away from it.0 -
