My itchy eyes are driving me crazy! Is this a hypothyroidism symptom for anyone else? Could I have developed allergies?! I've never suffered from any type of allergy my entire life! boo....

Well, I didn't associate it with hypo, but now that you mention it....right before I was diagnosed my eye itching was out of control!!!! I had never had allergies either, but WOW....I still occasionally experience it, but NOTHING like then.0

Dont get me started on my eyes!!!!! That is my biggest complaint right now!!! My upper eye lids are sooooo swollen and droop over my eye lashes and I have puffy pockets under my eyes as well! I look horrible! My eyes are dry, sticky and itchy! Thought I had an infection, but doctor says all clean! So frustrating, looks like I havent slept in years!0

Not all that itchy really, but I periodically get dry eyes. Sometimes I wake up during the night due to the discomfort, and have to get the eyedrops. It can be a problem when trying to be active outdoor as well. I wear a mask due to asthma, and then I need to wear contacts since my glasses get fogged down. Sometimes they get a wee bit stuck since my eyes are so dry.0

You might consider buying some rewetting drops and see how your eyes feel. If those don't work it might be worth talking to your Dr about Restasis eye drops. I had horrible dry eyes for years ( to the point it was affecting my vision)...the restasis does help...and my eyes would be very dry and itchy...and have lots of sticky yuck in them. When I started on Cytomel (synthetic T3) after about a week my eyes cleared up considerably(a pleasant side effect I wasn't expecting at all). I talked to my ophthalmologist about it and he said that T3 affects the mucus coating of our eyes...something I never knew otherwise I would've made a stronger case for adding in Cytomel years ago! Anyhow my eyes are still a little dry at times and I use drops, but I no longer need the restasis and my vision has improved immensely.0

I got told mine were hayfever which it might be. Massive bags under eyes and my eyes swell up all the time and go red. Never thought about it being related either.0

Mine get really itchy and are also affected by air conditioning, dry eyes is a side effect. If I'm walking around a supermarket and their air conditioning is high my eyes are watering and hurting by the time I come out!!0

My eyes last year started itching and swelling up really bad. It got so bad, people thought I was crying all the time. I made an appointment with my eye dr. and he found that I had severe dry eye. He said that he could not rule out, that it had to do with my thyroid, because your thyroid is connected to so many things in your body, but he also said, it could be allergies, and this would be new for me. I have never had allergies. I was placed on eye drops and I can't live without it.0

YES!!! They were always itchy, dark circles under my eyes and by 5-6pm my contacts were all blurry. Just kinda figured it was what it was. Recently diagnosed Gluten-Intolerant so have been off all gluten for almost 4 weeks and just the other day I realized (at 10pm) that my contacts were not blurry.....and my eyes were not itchy....and the dark circles had diminished significantly. Can't say that cutting out gluten would solve the problem for others but please know it did for me (along with many other symptoms that often go hand-in-hand with hypothyroidism....and given they are both auto-immune disorders, they often exist at the same time)
Good luck and I hope you find some relief!!!0
